The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lowhanger rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lopez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lopez misses with a double jab

Lopez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lopez tries to free his leg and advance position but Lowhanger is retaining full guard.

Lowhanger parries the strikes from Lopez easily there. Lopez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lowhanger to escape.

Lopez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lowhanger rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lopez's guard! Nice work there by Lowhanger!
Lopez wants to sweep here but Lowhanger controlling him for the moment.

Lopez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Lopez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lowhanger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lowhanger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lopez had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lowhanger is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Lopez Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lowhanger's back instead.

Lopez shoots in but no luck this time.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Deuce Lowhanger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Lopez.
Lopez closes the distance and clinches up with Lowhanger, looking for a takedown. Lopez pushes Lowhanger against the cage but Lowhanger circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lowhanger stalks Lopez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lopez's face. Lopez staggers backwards, shaken.
Lopez takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Lowhanger moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Lopez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lowhanger but Lowhanger pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lowhanger lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lowhanger closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Lopez! Lowhanger dives in looking to finish! Lopez is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
