PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steven Weis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zsolt Erdei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erdei has chosen Funktasztikus feat Animal Cannibals - PMLB 2008 as his entrance music. Zsolt Erdei told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weis ducks under a wild hook from Erdei.
Erdei tries to close the distance and clinch but Weis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Weis shoots in for a double leg but Erdei sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Erdei misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Erdei moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Weis slips a jab and a cross from Erdei.
Erdei throws a series of punches but Weis moves out of range.

Erdei throws his legs up looking for a submission but Weis uses it to pass to side control.

Weis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Erdei, who protects the arm well.

Erdei has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Weis throws a front kick aimed at Erdei's knee but Erdei avoids it well.

Weis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Erdei is refusing to be controlled, as Weis sits in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Erdei cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Steven Weis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Erdei jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Weis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Weis and Erdei has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Erdei thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Weis to regain full guard.
Weis seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Weis regains half guard there - taking advantage of Erdei's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Weis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Erdei closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Erdei lands in his opponent's guard.

Erdei drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Erdei jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Weis wants to stand and escape but Erdei is having none of it.

Weis had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Erdei is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Weis Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Erdei's back instead.
Erdei breaks Weis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Erdei avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Weis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Erdei is one step ahead there.
Erdei stands and throws Weis's legs to the side, diving into side control.
