Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rufus Montoya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Forrest Griffin !
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Griffin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Griffin clinches up with Montoya and pushes him back against the cage.

Griffin pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Montoya trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Montoya throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffin tries to strike from the bottom.
Griffin is wriggling around but Montoya manages to pass to half guard.
Griffin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Montoya. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Montoya is trying to work for a kimura but Griffin is defending well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Griffin is trying to improve his position.

Montoya is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Griffin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Griffin wants to control but Montoya postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Griffin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Montoya sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Griffin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Montoya attempts a counter takedown but Griffin avoids it well and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Griffin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rufus Montoya is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Griffin pushes Montoya up against the cage in a clinch.
Griffin tries to pull guard but Montoya won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Montoya wants to break the clinch but can't.
Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Montoya avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Griffin jumps into guard, dragging Montoya to the mat.
Griffin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Montoya has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Griffin looking for subs off his back but Montoya has passed one foot through into half guard.
Montoya not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montoya looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Griffin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Griffin is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Montoya is staying active.

Griffin looking for subs from the bottom but Montoya mounts him!
Griffin is breathing heavily.
A nice elbow there by Montoya.
Montoya pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Griffin is trying to reverse the position but instead Montoya has taken his back - oops!
Montoya struggling to keep hold of the position.

Montoya is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Griffin is defending well though. Montoya let's go of the attempt for now.
Montoya doesn't have the hooks in and Griffin manages to turn into his guard.
Montoya is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Griffin can do to turn this around?
Montoya is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Montoya holds on and takes a little breather.
Montoya could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Griffin wants to control from the top but Montoya keeps moving.

Montoya looking to hit a scissor sweep but Griffin is one step ahead there.

Montoya pushes Griffin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Griffin is looking to clinch but Montoya is avoiding it.
Montoya tries to counter with a takedown but Griffin is quick to defend against it.
Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Montoya paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Montoya has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Griffin pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Montoya back to the cage. Griffin follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Montoya swats away the attempt to clinch by Griffin .

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Montoya lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Montoya tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Griffin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Griffin wants to clinch up but Montoya keeps it at a distance.

Griffin tries to clinch but Montoya is having none of it.
Griffin shoots for a takedown but Montoya saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Montoya moves into range and clinches up with Griffin .

Montoya lands a right hand that snaps the head of Griffin backwards.
Montoya scores with a shoulder strike.
Montoya is trying to push Griffin away but Griffin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Griffin is working for takedown but Montoya is calmly controlling the position for now.
Montoya slows down the pace here.

Montoya content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Montoya has Griffin pressed against the cage, preventing Griffin from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Griffin goes for a takedown attempt but Montoya pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Forrest Griffin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rufus Montoya is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Montoya plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Well Montoya has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
