Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leroy Townsend (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinji Kagome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leroy Townsend has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leroy Townsend!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shinji Kagome!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kagome darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kagome wants to lay and pray for a moment but Townsend keeps working.
Kagome is pressing down on Townsend's thigh, looking to free his foot. Townsend is holding on for now.
Townsend controlling the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Townsend is not content to let Kagome control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kagome is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Townsend holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Townsend feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Townsend throwing strikes from guard but Kagome blocks nicely.

Kagome isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Townsend stacks Kagome on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Townsend!

Townsend decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kagome to his feet.

Kagome looking to score a takedown here. Townsend is defending well but Kagome drives through and ends up in Townsend's guard.
Kagome stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Townsend swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Townsend is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kagome defends well.
Kagome would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kagome is fighting to break Townsend's control of his arms but Townsend is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kagome slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kagome wants to control from the top but Townsend keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kagome would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Townsend gets a double leg takedown into Kagome's guard.
Kagome looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Townsend decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Kagome - that will leave a mark!
Kagome digs a good body shot into Townsend's ribs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kagome tries to close the distance and clinch but Townsend swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Townsend wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Kagome closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Townsend quickly recovers to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shinji Kagome dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Kagome shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Townsend manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kagome throws a strike but Townsend rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Townsend loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Townsend accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kagome is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Townsend throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kagome works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Townsend stands and steps away. Kagome gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Townsend gets caught flat footed, as Kagome shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Townsend has his hands on Kagome's head, controlling the position.

Kagome wants to control from the top but Townsend keeps moving.
Townsend has his hands on Kagome's head, controlling the position.
Kagome won't allow Townsend to sweep him here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kagome wants to stand but Townsend is controlling his posture from full guard.
Kagome trying to control the position from guard on top but Townsend is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Townsend misses with a series of wild punches.
Kagome lands a slapping body shot.

Townsend throws a head kick that misses.
Townsend fails with a takedown attempt.
Shinji Kagome seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Townsend moves into range and clinches up with Kagome.

Kagome drags the fight down to the ground.
Kagome bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Townsend's guard.

Kagome postures up.
Kagome wants to control from the top but Townsend keeps moving.

Kagome loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kagome looking to sit in guard and control but Townsend gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kagome controls Townsend momentarily but Townsend frees himself.

Kagome working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Townsend doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kagome is tightening it up a little... Townsend has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Townsend reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Townsend taps out! Nice BJJ there by Kagome!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Shinji Kagome!
