PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cappie Ragnard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Keller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Cappie Ragnard has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Cappie Ragnard seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cappie Ragnard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Travis Keller!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ragnard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ragnard wants to control from the top but Keller keeps moving.
Ragnard prevents Keller from getting back to his feet.

Keller utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ragnard forces Keller back against the cage and clinches.
Keller on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Ragnard manages to break the clinch.

Ragnard closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Keller's guard.
Ragnard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Keller swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Keller is looking to stand up but Ragnard isn't so interested in that idea.

Ragnard wants to control from the top but Keller keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Ragnard tries to pass the half guard into mount. Keller knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ragnard is keen to just control but Keller is a slippery customer.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Keller is looking to escape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ragnard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Keller sprawls well initially but Ragnard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Ragnard moves into full mount! Keller won't be happy about that!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Keller can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ragnard pushes Keller up against the cage in a clinch.

Ragnard has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Keller uses from the top position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ragnard is on top in guard.

Keller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ragnard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ragnard is looking to take a break and control but Keller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ragnard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Keller can do to turn this around?

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ragnard is looking for a kimura but Keller is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ragnard to get the leverage.
Ragnard is just content to waste time from the top position. Keller takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Ragnard is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Keller is looking to stand up but Ragnard isn't so interested in that idea.

I was talking to Ragnard's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ragnard is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Ragnard breaks from the clinch.
Ragnard throws a head kick that misses.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Keller uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ragnard.

Ragnard dives in and scores a takedown into Keller's guard.
Ragnard is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Ragnard takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ragnard is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Travis Keller has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Keller's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ragnard connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Keller scrambles back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ragnard tries to bum rush Keller with a series of wild strikes but Keller uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ragnard sets himself, and Keller steps forward looking for the clinch! Ragnard avoids it this time.
Ragnard fails to land with a series of punches.
Keller is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Ragnard drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Cappie Ragnard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ragnard wants to control but Keller is keeping him busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Keller regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ragnard's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cappie Ragnard showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ragnard has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
