PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between CJ Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makowski Brewer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, CJ Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Makowski Brewer!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brewer gets a double leg takedown into Stone's guard.
Brewer postures up in Stone's guard and throws a big left but Stone blocks it.
Stone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brewer manages to get himself to full guard.

Stone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brewer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone trying to control but Brewer is working from the bottom.
Brewer wants to sweep but no luck.

Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Brewer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brewer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Brewer has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Stone has passed into side control.
Brewer is trying to improve his position.
The ground and pound from Stone seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stone is looking to take a break and control but Brewer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brewer is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brewer can't do much from the bottom here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brewer is not content to let Stone control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Brewer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stone was well out of range. Poor timing from Brewer.
Stone tries to counter by clinching up but Brewer breaks away and moves out of range.
Stone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Brewer but Brewer pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stone tries to clinch up but Brewer circles away and keeps his distance.
A swing and a miss from Brewer.
Stone will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Brewer tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Brewer scores with a takedown into Stone's guard.
Brewer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Stone is looking to stand up but Brewer isn't so interested in that idea.
Stone really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stone wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Brewer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stone swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brewer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brewer in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brewer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A right-left combo lands from Stone.
Brewer missing with a left hand there. Stone was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Stone changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Brewer misses with an uppercut
letting Stone counter with a right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makowski Brewer dominated that round.

Stone tries to keep at a distance but Brewer has taken the fight into the clinch.

Brewer manages to pull guard.
Stone trying to control but Brewer is working from the bottom.

Brewer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Brewer's guard.
Brewer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brewer gets full guard.
Stone throwing strikes but missing.
Stone tries to stand but Brewer is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brewer wants to sweep but no luck.
Stone looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Brewer trying to keep a closed guard but Stone is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Stone shoots for a double leg takedown but Brewer sprawls well. He's pushed Stone's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Brewer swings for the body but Stone moves out of range.
Stone jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
A shot to the body from Brewer misses
and Stone counters with a three punch combo that has Brewer backing up. Brewer nods at Stone to acknowledge the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brewer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brewer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Brewer tries to move to mount but Stone blocks the move with his legs.
Stone is looking for a sweep.
Brewer tries to advance to mount but can't.
Stone sneaks back into half guard.
Brewer wants to take a breather but Stone is having none of it.
Stone is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brewer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Makowski Brewer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Brewer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stone defends it well.
Brewer is pressing down on Stone's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stone is holding on for now.
Stone tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brewer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brewer misses with a wild body shot.
Brewer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stone moves away.
Stone ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Stone tries to clinch but Brewer moves out of range.

Stone closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brewer to the mat! Brewer manages to get full guard.

Brewer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Brewer is breathing heavily.
Stone trying to control but Brewer is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stone pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brewer is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makowski Brewer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Stone throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Brewer drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Stone defends it well.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Brewer checks a leg kick.
Stone throws a sloppy head kick and Brewer moves out of range easily.
A combination from Brewer does no damage.
Stone lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Brewer.
Brewer tries to advance to mount but Stone denies him.
Brewer controlling from side mount.
Brewer scoring with punches and elbows.

Stone tries to improve position but can't.
Stone tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Brewer raining down hammerfists from mount.
Stone is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Brewer is landing with some decent strikes but Stone is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Stone tries to lock up and control but Brewer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Brewer is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Stone has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Stone!
Brewer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stone's guard.

Makowski Brewer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Brewer pushes down on Stone's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Stone taking some punishment here, with Brewer in his half guard.
Brewer keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brewer connects with a nice short shot to Stone's temple.
Brewer wants to control but Stone is keeping him busy.
Brewer not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brewer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Brewer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Brewer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stone's head.

Stone wants to get back to full guard.
Brewer with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Stone is controlling Brewer's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Stone wants to control but Brewer is keeping busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brewer in particular looking to stall.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stone is refusing to be controlled, as Brewer sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Stone throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Brewer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Stone!
Brewer works to advance to full mount. Stone defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Brewer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stone is looking to escape.
Stone tries to lock up and control but Brewer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Makowski Brewer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Brewer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
