Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dylan Mills (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michal Materla has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michal Materla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dylan Mills!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Mills.
Mills throws an off balance right hand

so Materla counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Materla is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mills wants to sweep here but Materla controlling him for the moment.
Mills is trying to keep Materla in close.
Materla wants to control from the top but Mills keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mills preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mills keeping full guard, as Materla tries to pass.
Mills has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Pahuyuth Muay Thai 12 elite coaches. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Materla trying to control but Mills is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mills tries to close the distance and clinch but Materla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Materla shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mills sprawls well. Mills wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Materla gets slowly back to his feet.
Materla will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mills leaves Materla with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michal Materla. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mills fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Materla, pushing him back against the cage.
Mills is working for takedown but Materla is calmly controlling the position for now.
Materla drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mills pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mills shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Materla pinned against the cage. Materla gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mills takes a swing at Materla's ribcage but misses.
Materla fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mills changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Materla tries to avoid it but Mills manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Materla to the ground. Materla escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mills throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Materla on the side of the head.
Mills thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Materla if he has to take too many more of those.
Materla tries to bum rush Mills with a series of wild strikes but Mills uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mills pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Mills bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mills is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Materla will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Materla tries to buck Mills off but Mills is having none of it.

Mills tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Materla is trying to control Mills's posture but Mills avoids it.
Materla manages to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Materla won't allow Mills to pass to mount.
Materla is looking to escape.
Mills is keen to just control but Materla is a slippery customer.
We've been hearing good reports from Materla's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Materla tries to roll over but Mills keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mills stops Materla from getting back to his feet.
Mills is just content to waste time from the top position. Materla takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Materla is on top in guard.

Materla throws an elbow that misses. Mills uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Materla's guard. Nice move by Mills!


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mills loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mills stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Materla swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mills stops Materla from standing up.
Materla is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Materla looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mills sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mills trying to control but Materla is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dylan Mills dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Mills manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Materla on his heels. He'll look to pass Materla's guard now, I'm sure.

Materla had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mills defends it easily.
Mills postures up.
Materla is really struggling to control Mills but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Materla has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mills can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mills trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Mills drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Materla manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mills has Materla in his guard.

Mills really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Materla. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Materla stays in close to Mills's body and controls the position.

Materla is fighting to break Mills's control of his arms but Mills is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Materla's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mills keeping moving, preventing Materla from controlling successfully.
Mills not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mills utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Materla wants to get up but he can't break Mills's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mills will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mills tries to clinch but Materla is having none of it.
It looked like Materla wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Mills has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mills feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mills content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Materla has locked up a guillotine! Materla's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Mills is holding on here and Materla must be using up a lot of energy. Mills has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Materla gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Michal Materla!
