PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vergil Cry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damon Macready (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macready comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Born to be Wild kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Vergil Cry has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Vergil Cry seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vergil Cry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damon Macready!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macready has closed the distance and engaged Cry in a clinch.

Macready's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Macready throws a series of punches but Cry moves out of range.
Cry half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Cry closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Macready did well to prevent Cry getting side control.
Macready wants to get back to his feet.
Cry not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Cry is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cry has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Macready is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cry throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Cry is working for a kimura but Macready is defending it quite comfortably.
Cry looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Macready with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Macready has hold of Cry's hands but Cry slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cry sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Macready defending well though.
Cry is keen to just control but Macready is a slippery customer.

Cry is working for a kimura but Macready is defending it quite comfortably.
Macready keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cry is nestled in close to Macready, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Macready wants to control but Cry is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Cry is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Cry slips a nice elbow through Macready's hands, connecting with Macready's forehead.

Cry is looking for a kimura here.

Macready is defending against the submission attempts here by Cry.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cry connects with a nice short shot to Macready's temple.

Cry is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Macready really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Macready is not content to let Cry control the position.
Cry lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Macready is pressing down on Cry's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cry with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cry throwing strikes but missing.
Cry wants to control from the top but Macready keeps moving.

Cry stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Cry throws a series of punches but Macready avoids them all with ease.
Cry misses with a low kick.
Cry digs a good body shot into Macready's ribs.
Macready throws a sloppy head kick and Cry moves out of range easily.

Cry rushes Macready and presses him up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Macready escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cry shoots in but Macready avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Macready avoids the head kick by Cry.
Cry's jab looks to have found its range, popping Macready under the eye.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vergil Cry dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Nice body kick from Macready.
Macready swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cry tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Macready closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Cry is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Macready can do to turn this around?
Macready prevents the takedown attempt.
Cry avoids a wild elbow strike from Macready.
A short right from Cry on the inside.

Cry pulls guard effortlessly.

Cry had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Macready defends it easily.
Macready tries to stand but Cry is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Macready would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cry has his foot on Macready's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Macready works his way back into a safe position though.

Macready is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Cry wants to control but Macready is keeping busy.

Macready is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cry gets tackled into the cage by Macready. Macready maintains the clinch.

Cry jumps guard and drags Macready to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Cry looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Macready wanted to stand there but Cry had control of the position.
Macready is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Cry is trying to control the position but Macready postures up.
Macready wants to stand but Cry is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cry is looking to clinch but Macready is avoiding it.
Damon Macready is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cry decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Cry is looking to take a break and control but Macready is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vergil Cry dominated that second round.
That's time! Cry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cry blocks a head kick by Macready.
Macready stuffs the takedown attempt from Cry. Cry gets slowly back to his feet.
Macready slaps away a takedown attempt from Cry, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Macready takes the fight into the clinch.
Macready is trying to break the clinch but Cry is controlling him.
Cry wants to take the fight to the mat but Macready manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vergil Cry. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cry manages to pull guard.

Macready got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cry has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Macready has managed to get both his arms back between Cry's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cry trying to keep a closed guard but Macready is proving a slippery customer.

Macready gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Macready scores with a shot to the body.
Cry drops his hands momentarily and Macready takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Donk. Macready catches Cry right on the button with a cross.

Cry takes the fight into the clinch.
Macready tries to work over Cry's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Macready misses with a short punch on the inside.

Cry ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cry no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Macready wants to get up but he can't break Cry's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cry keeping moving, preventing Macready from controlling successfully.
Cry lands a decent punch to the body there.

Cry escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Macready gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Macready wants to stand and escape but instead Cry has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Macready pushes Cry off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cry shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cry shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Cry looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Macready pushes Cry off looking to stand but Cry dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cry is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cry stands up and beckons Macready to join him on the feet.
Cry looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Macready is fending him off so far but Cry persists. Nope, Macready circles away and we're back to standing.
Cry tries to move into range but Macready moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Cry shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Macready manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cry tries to free his leg and advance position but Macready is retaining full guard.
Damon Macready has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cry trying to control but Macready is working from the bottom.
Vergil Cry is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Macready can do anything to dispel that myth.

Macready uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Macready misses with a looping left.
Damon Macready seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Macready thows a left - swing and a miss!
Macready misses with a few strikes there.
Cry is looking to counter punch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damon Macready comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cry has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
