Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gennady Maksimushkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zeke Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Maksimushkin avoiding damage as Rivers throws knees to the body.

Rivers manages to break the clinch.
Maksimushkin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rivers circles away.
Zeke Rivers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rivers wants to clinch up but Maksimushkin keeps it at a distance.

Rivers gets the takedown into side control.
The ground and pound from Rivers seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Maksimushkin tries to improve position but can't.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Maksimushkin is pushing Rivers's head away, looking to escape. Rivers manages to hold on to the position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rivers decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Maksimushkin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rivers is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Rivers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Maksimushkin is not content to let Rivers control the position.
The ground and pound from Rivers seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rivers gets to mount! Maksimushkin was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Maksimushkin is trying to escape the mount.
Rivers throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Rivers looking to ground and pound but Maksimushkin is blocking nicely.

Maksimushkin is breathing heavily.
Rivers thows a huge punch but Maksimushkin dodges it nicely.

Maksimushkin wants to control but Rivers is keeping busy.

Maksimushkin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rivers swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Maksimushkin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rivers cracks Maksimushkin with an open hand slap.

Rivers tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Maksimushkin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Maksimushkin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rivers won't be happy with that.
Rivers is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Maksimushkin stalling away here and it's allowed Rivers to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Rivers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maksimushkin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maksimushkin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rivers wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rivers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maksimushkin defends well.
Rivers has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Maksimushkin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rivers wants to counter with a clinch but Maksimushkin pushes him away.

Rivers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rivers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Maksimushkin is trying to control Rivers's posture but Rivers avoids it.
Zeke Rivers has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rivers decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A head kick by Maksimushkin misses

and Rivers moves into the clinch.
Rivers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Maksimushkin tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rivers counters with a two punch combo.

Rivers changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Zeke Rivers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Maksimushkin manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Maksimushkin, under a barage of strikes from Rivers.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rivers connects with a nice short shot to Maksimushkin's temple.

Rivers tries to clinch there but Maksimushkin circles away.
Rivers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maksimushkin.

Rivers throws a head kick but Maksimushkin moves out of range.

Rivers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rivers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rivers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maksimushkin keeps working.

Maksimushkin gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Rivers counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Rivers shoots in and gets a takedown into Maksimushkin's guard.

Maksimushkin is working an open guard so Rivers takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Rivers misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Maksimushkin shoots for a double leg takedown but Rivers sprawls well. He's pushed Maksimushkin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Maksimushkin sets himself, and Rivers steps forward looking for the clinch! Maksimushkin avoids it this time.

Rivers shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maksimushkin napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Rivers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Maksimushkin to his feet.
Rivers throws a sloppy head kick and Maksimushkin moves out of range easily.
Maksimushkin fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rivers has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Zeke Rivers seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Rivers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rivers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maksimushkin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rivers stands and steps away. Maksimushkin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Zeke Rivers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Rivers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Maksimushkin holds on to Rivers's head and controls the position momentarily.

Well Rivers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
