PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between CJ Dozer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, CJ Dozer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dozer fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Dozer misses with a wild body shot.
Dozer moves to clinch but Sakuraba breaks away

and Sakuraba counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Sakuraba controlling the action here.

Sakuraba seems to be working for a kimura but Dozer defends the submission attempt.

Dozer looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Sakuraba is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dozer is just riding it out for now. Sakuraba eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dozer trying to hold on to Sakuraba's head to control him but Sakuraba postures up.

Dozer looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Dozer is looking for a sweep. Sakuraba is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dozer looking for submissions off his back.
Sakuraba with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Sakuraba is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sakuraba takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sakuraba is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dozer defends it well.
Dozer wants to improve his position but Sakuraba is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dozer wants to control but Sakuraba is keeping busy.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dozer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sakuraba pulls his head out easily.

Dozer looking for submissions off his back.
Sakuraba trying to pass the guard but Dozer defending well.
Dozer is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Sakuraba jumps into side control!
Dozer is trying to get back to half guard.
Dozer tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Sakuraba easily slips into full mount!

Sakuraba takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
A lull in the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dozer trying to get back to his feet but Sakuraba is in full control for now.
Sakuraba controlling from the back.
I really don't envy Dozer right now.
Sakuraba biding his time, controlling Dozer.
Sakuraba doesn't have the hooks in and Dozer manages to turn into his guard.
Dozer wants to control from the top but Sakuraba keeps moving.
Sakuraba is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sakuraba working for a triangle but Dozer defends it easily.

Sakuraba is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dozer stopping the sweep attempt from Sakuraba.

Sakuraba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dozer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dozer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dozer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenji Sakuraba dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dozer scores with a one two! Sakuraba had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Dozer moves into the clinch successfully.
Dozer throws a head punch that misses.
Dozer scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Dozer lands with a right to the head.
Dozer lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sakuraba.
Sakuraba changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Dozer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sakuraba misses with the combination.
Dozer uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sakuraba has time to react.
Dozer scores with a jab to the head.
Dozer wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice straight punches there by Dozer. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Dozer.

Dozer gets a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dozer throws a head punch that misses.
Sakuraba has Dozer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dozer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Dozer fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Dozer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sakuraba shoots in for a double leg but Dozer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
CJ Dozer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Sakuraba.
Dozer lands a glancing blow to the side of Sakuraba's head.
Sakuraba keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Dozer works over Sakuraba's head and body with a nice combination.
Sakuraba fails with a takedown attempt.
Sakuraba takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Dozer connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sakuraba's hands.
We've been told by Dozer's head coaches at Bomb Squad Tokyo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Dozer scores with a body shot.
Dozer lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sakuraba ducks right into an uppercut from Dozer.


Sakuraba is rocked!
Dozer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dozer wants it to stay on the feet.
Dozer lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sakuraba backs up against the cage.
Sakuraba is still on wobbly legs! Can Dozer finish him?
Dozer lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Sakuraba out cold! Sakuraba is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). CJ Dozer!
CJ Dozer decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
