Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dave Judkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Cortazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Julio Cortazar enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dave Judkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Julio Cortazar!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Judkins throws a left and a right that both miss

and Cortazar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Judkins wants to stand but Cortazar is controlling the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cortazar's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Judkins is looking to stand up but Cortazar isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cortazar wants to control from the top but Judkins keeps moving.
Judkins has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Cortazar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cortazar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A little feinted left hand from Judkins on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Cortazar shoots for a takedown but Judkins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
As Cortazar looks to move away, Judkins throws a big counter combo bu Cortazar just gets out of the way.
Cortazar darts in looking for a takedown but Judkins gets double underhooks and turns Cortazar into the cage.
Judkins seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Dave Judkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Cortazar.

Cortazar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Judkins is looking to counter the offense by Cortazar and move into the clinch.
Judkins lands a nice shot that snaps Cortazar's head back.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Cortazar jumps guard and drags Judkins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Judkins connects with a couple of short punches.
Judkins is looking to work some ground and pound but Cortazar has wrist control.

Judkins postures up in Cortazar's guard and throws a big left but Cortazar blocks it.

Cortazar wants to sweep but no luck.
Cortazar working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Judkins.

Judkins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Judkins landing with the ground and pound.
Cortazar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cortazar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Judkins is one step ahead there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cortazar is on top in guard.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Cortazar stops Judkins from standing up.
Cortazar trying to control but Judkins is working from the bottom.
Cortazar won't allow Judkins to get back to his feet.

Cortazar throws a big right hand that misses.

Cortazar gets to his feet - Judkins follows without any prompting.
Cortazar takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Judkins swings widly with a right hand
and Cortazar counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Judkins drops Cortazar with a right and a left! Judkins comes rushing in but Cortazar regains his composure and manages to keep Judkins in guard.


Cortazar is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Judkins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cortazar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cortazar lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Cortazar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Judkins is one step ahead there.
Cortazar controls Judkins momentarily but Judkins frees himself.
Cortazar is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Cortazar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Judkins manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Cortazar keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Judkins prevents the takedown attempt.

Judkins manages to break the clinch.
Judkins throws a jab but it's blocked by Cortazar.
Judkins missing with a left hand there. Cortazar was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Cortazar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Judkins tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cortazar is in Judkins's guard.
Judkins is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cortazar is controlling him.
Judkins keeping moving, preventing Cortazar from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Judkins will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Cortazar counters with a straight right hand.

Cortazar closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Judkins did well to prevent Cortazar getting side control.

Ground and pound from Cortazar.
Cortazar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cortazar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Judkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Cortazar is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Judkins to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Judkins shrugs it off.

Cortazar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Judkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Judkins fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cortazar on the side of the head.

Cortazar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Judkins with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Cortazar takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Cortazar has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cortazar pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cortazar cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Cortazar looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Judkins is trying to stand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cortazar looking to isolate an arm here. Judkins doesn't see it coming and as Cortazar extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Cortazar!
