Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Jefferson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nestori Laine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Laine's choice of entrance music: Chariots of Fire. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nestori Laine!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Laine closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Laine wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jefferson keeps working.

Jefferson pushes Laine off and gets back to his feet.

Laine is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jefferson's half guard.

Jefferson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Laine keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Jefferson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Laine's head.
Laine is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Laine is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Jefferson can't fight it off and eventually Laine manages to take the fight to the floor. Jefferson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jefferson controls Laine momentarily but Laine frees himself.
Laine must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Jefferson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Laine is trying to trip Jefferson. He has hold of a leg but Jefferson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Laine persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Laine is looking to pass into half guard but Jefferson pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Jefferson is in guard.

Jefferson wants to get up but he can't break Laine's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close round but I would say that Derrick Jefferson will probably get the nod.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nestori Laine has got the better of the ground game so far.

Laine working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Laine is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jefferson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Nestori Laine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Laine shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jefferson's guard.
Jefferson wants to sweep but no luck.

Jefferson pushes Laine off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Laine is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jefferson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Laine has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Laine is looking to take a break and control but Jefferson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Laine takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jefferson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
It looks like Laine is going to stand back up.
Laine wants to pass to mount but Jefferson is defending the position.

Jefferson pushes Laine off and gets back to his feet.

Laine shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Laine was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The strikes coming from Laine are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

I would just about give that final round to Nestori Laine.
I think Laine has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
