Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Slewton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Why (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Slewton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stevie Why!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slewton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Why sprawls well initially but Slewton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Why wants to get back to full guard.
Why moves into full guard.
Slewton trying to control but Why is working from the bottom.

Why has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Slewton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Slewton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Why swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Why is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Why is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Why wants to control the position but Slewton says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Why won't allow Slewton to pass to mount.
Slewton prevents Why from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Slewton perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Why is refusing to be controlled, as Slewton sits in half guard.

Why is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Why gets caught flat footed, as Slewton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slewton throws and elbow that misses. Why uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Slewton's guard. Nice move by Why!
Slewton wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Why stopping the sweep attempt from Slewton.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Why wants to control from the top but Slewton keeps moving.

Why postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Slewton looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Why puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Why wants to stand but Slewton has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Slewton fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Why thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Why is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Slewton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carlos Slewton will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Why gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

Slewton wants to take a breather but Why is having none of it.
Slewton content to control rather than advance.

Slewton uses his free foot to push down on Why's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Why.

Slewton goes for an armbar but Why turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Why.

Slewton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Why doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Why manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Why slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Why tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Why wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slewton keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slewton wants to control but Why postures up.
Slewton is not content to let Why control the position.
A lull in the action here as Why stalls from top position.

Slewton tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Why closes the distance looking to clinch

and Slewton counters with a takedown into side control.
Slewton wants to control but Why is keeping him busy.
Why wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Why is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Slewton asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Why is looking to reverse the position.

Slewton controlling from side mount.
Slewton working the ground and pound.
Why regains half guard.
Slewton is looking to advance position but Why won't allow it.
Why manages to get to full guard.
Why preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Carlos Slewton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Slewton manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Slewton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Why is looking to escape.

Why tries to lock up and control but Slewton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Why is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Slewton wants to control the action but instead Why gets a body lock and reverses into Slewton's guard! Nice work!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slewton, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
