Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Rojas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonah Sorentino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rojas comes to the cage accompanied by Apaga Mas Não Bate. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rodrigo Rojas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jonah Sorentino!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rojas looks to clinch
and Sorentino counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rojas tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Sorentino connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rojas tries for a takedown but Sorentino circles away easily
and Sorentino counters with a nice uppercut.
Sorentino has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rojas slips a straight right by Sorentino.
Sorentino swats away the attempt to clinch by Rojas.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rojas closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sorentino did well to prevent Rojas getting side control.
Sorentino is refusing to be controlled, as Rojas sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rojas is really struggling to control Sorentino but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Rojas looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Sorentino keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rojas is trying to control. Sorentino wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rojas tries to clinch up but Sorentino circles away and keeps his distance.
Sorentino steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rojas.
Sorentino is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Sorentino lands a nice shot to the body.
Rojas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sorentino circles away.
Rojas throws a sloppy head kick and Sorentino moves out of range easily.
Sorentino lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rojas throws a shot from downtown. Sorentino moves away and avoids it.
Rojas misses with a wild body shot.

Rojas shoots in and gets a takedown into Sorentino's guard.
Sorentino is controlling Rojas's posture.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sorentino can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rojas is pushing down on Sorentino's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sorentino is fighting to maintain full guard but Rojas has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sorentino is holding on to half guard well.
Rojas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sorentino keeps working.
Rojas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rojas with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Rojas not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rojas is trying to control. Sorentino wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rojas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sorentino is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rojas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sorentino but Sorentino pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrigo Rojas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rojas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sorentino manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sorentino throws out a counter right but Rojas avoids it with no problem.

and Sorentino counters with a straight right hand.
Rodrigo Rojas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sorentino blocks a head kick by Rojas.
Rojas walks into a left hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rojas avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jonah Sorentino will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rojas throws a sloppy head kick
and Sorentino counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rojas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sorentino's waist but Sorentino gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rojas off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rojas jumps guard but Sorentino turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sorentino wants to stall.
Sorentino effectively controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rojas tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sorentino smiles and moves away.

Rojas moves into range and clinches up with Sorentino.
I was talking to Rojas's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Rojas jumps into guard, dragging Sorentino to the mat.

Sorentino got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rojas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sorentino has managed to get both his arms back between Rojas's legs - danger averted.
Sorentino with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sorentino wants to stand but Rojas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rojas is looking to cinch up a triangle. Sorentino throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rojas's body to avoid the submission. Rojas has instead reached around Sorentino's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rojas arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Rodrigo Rojas!
Our winner, Rodrigo Rojas, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
