Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johans Jonassfson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Derozan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Derozan throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Jonassfson.
Derozan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Derozan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jonassfson clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Jonassfson's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Derozan breaks the clinch.

Derozan clinches with his opponent.
Derozan keeps control of Jonassfson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Derozan successfully pulls guard.
Derozan is controlling Jonassfson's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Derozan is on top in guard.


Derozan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jonassfson fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Derozan thows a body kick. Jonassfson tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Derozan moves into the clinch successfully.

Derozan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Derozan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Derozan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jonassfson is defending well.

Derozan breaks the clinch.
James Derozan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jonassfson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Derozan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Derozan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Derozan advances to half guard.
Derozan wants to control but Jonassfson is keeping him busy.
Derozan prevents Jonassfson from improving his position.
Derozan lands with a punch from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Derozan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jonassfson sees it coming and defends easily.
Derozan is keen to just control but Jonassfson is a slippery customer.
Derozan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Derozan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Derozan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Derozan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jonassfson keeps working.
Jonassfson trying to control from the bottom.
Jonassfson pushes Derozan off but Derozan dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Derozan works to advance to full mount. Jonassfson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jonassfson is trying to reverse the position but instead Derozan has taken his back - oops!

Derozan is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Jonassfson is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). James Derozan!
James Derozan was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
