Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kurt Spyke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rikiya Sonoda!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sonoda tries to clinch but Spyke moves out of range.
Sonoda throws a head kick but Spyke moves out of range.
Sonoda plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Sonoda keeps Spyke at a distance using the push kick.
Sonoda lets loose with a powerful body kick. Spyke will feel that in the morning.
Sonoda throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sonoda tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Spyke was well out of range. Poor timing from Sonoda.
Sonoda moves to clinch but Spyke breaks away
and Spyke counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Rikiya Sonoda has been cut.
Sonoda tries to clinch up.
It looked like Spyke wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Sonoda is looking to slow Spyke down with leg kicks.
Sonoda swings widly with a right hand

and Spyke counters by moving into the clinch.
Sonoda tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Spyke avoids it.
Spyke works on Sonoda's body with a couple of short punches.

Spyke swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Spyke throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sonoda tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Spyke manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Sonoda throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Spyke has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sonoda.
Sonoda is looking to clinch but Spyke is avoiding it.
Spyke wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Sonoda throws a lazy right hand but Spyke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sonoda throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Spyke.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A looping hook to the body misses from Spyke. Sonoda does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spyke uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sonoda has time to react.

and Spyke counters with a nice right hand that sends Sonoda toppling to the canvas! Sonoda scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Spyke finish him?!

and Spyke counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Sonoda out cold! What a finish! Spyke is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
