PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kofi Amankwah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ardian Kurniawan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kofi Amankwah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ardian Kurniawan!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurniawan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kurniawan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Amankwah defends it nicely.
Kurniawan shoots in looking for a takedown. Amankwah tries to sprawl out of it but Kurniawan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Amankwah manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kofi Amankwah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ardian Kurniawan.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Amankwah drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Amankwah jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kurniawan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Amankwah dives in and scores a takedown into Kurniawan's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Amankwah lands with a right hand.
Kurniawan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Amankwah attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Kurniawan looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Kurniawan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Amankwah's guard.

Kurniawan is pressing down on Amankwah's thigh, looking to free his foot. Amankwah is holding on for now.

Kurniawan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Amankwah is just riding it out for now. Kurniawan eventually gives up the hold.

Kurniawan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Amankwah slaps away a takedown attempt from Kurniawan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kurniawan goes for a double leg but Amankwah avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Amankwah continues to drive forward.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kurniawan blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Kurniawan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Amankwah fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Kurniawan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Amankwah manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kurniawan has Amankwah in his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Amankwah throws a strike but Kurniawan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kofi Amankwah will probably get the nod.

Amankwah closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kurniawan to the mat! Kurniawan manages to get full guard.

Amankwah drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kurniawan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kurniawan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kurniawan!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Amankwah slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Amankwah moves in looking to clinch but Kurniawan pushes him off.

I would just about give that final round to Ardian Kurniawan.
I think Amankwah has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
