PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrey Koreshkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koreshkov comes to the cage accompanied by Ed Sheeran – Sing (feat. Pharrell Williams). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrey Koreshkov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Drake!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koreshkov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Drake but Drake pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Koreshkov throws a series of punches but Drake avoids them all with ease.
Koreshkov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Drake pinned against the cage. Drake gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drake keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrey Koreshkov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koreshkov shoots for a takedown but Drake saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Drake wants to counter with a clinch but Koreshkov pushes him away.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Koreshkov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Koreshkov looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Nice takedown defense from Drake. No joy for Koreshkov on that attempt.
Drake replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Koreshkov blocks it well.
Koreshkov throws a series of strikes that have Drake backpedaling.
Koreshkov lands a head kick. Drake smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Drake has control of Koreshkov's left arm, preventing Koreshkov from doing any damage.
Drake is trying to control the position but Koreshkov postures up.
Drake is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Koreshkov won't allow Drake to sweep him here.
Koreshkov wanted to stand there but Drake had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koreshkov drops back looking for a leg! Drake is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Drake manages to kick Koreshkov off! Koreshkov jumps back into Drake's guard.
Drake is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Drake is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Koreshkov shoots in but no luck this time.
Drake unleashes a big counter combination but Koreshkov bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Koreshkov lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Koreshkov is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Drake's half guard.
Drake trying to control but Koreshkov postures up.
Drake gets full guard.
Koreshkov is stalling in the full guard.
Koreshkov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Drake is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Koreshkov slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Koreshkov is defended easily by Drake.
Koreshkov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Drake.
Drake lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Koreshkov moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Koreshkov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Koreshkov is trying to get an arm triangle but Drake is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drake is not content to let Koreshkov control the position.
Koreshkov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Drake can do to turn this around?

Drake is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Koreshkov off and has taken his back!
Andrey Koreshkov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Koreshkov tries to escape but Drake has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Drake is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
I really don't envy Koreshkov right now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Koreshkov trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Drake is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Koreshkov has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Drake has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Koreshkov taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Drake doesn't care though - he's delighted!
