PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Archer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Archer has chosen Crysis as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Robert Archer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Archer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Archer as he avoids it easily.
James Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Archer cracks Alvarez with a right hand to the side of the head.
Archer has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Alvarez throws a body kick that misses.
Archer getting the better of the striking in that exchange.


It looks like James Alvarez has been cut.
Alvarez checks a low kick from Archer.
Alvarez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Archer is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alvarez.
Alvarez has his takedown stuffed
and Alvarez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Alvarez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez fails with the takedown.
Archer only half commits to the counter leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Archer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A nice inside leg kick there by Archer. That's going to slow Alvarez down.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Archer scores with a sloppy right hand. Alvarez should have avoided that one.
Archer throws a low kick, looking for Alvarez's leg but Alvarez calmly moves out of range.
Alvarez moves out of range of the strikes.
Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown but Archer manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Alvarez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Archer stuns Alvarez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Archer connects with an inside leg kick.
Archer ducks under a wild hook from Alvarez.
The crowd cheers as Archer lands an impressive looking overhand right. Alvarez doesn't seem phased though.
Alvarez closes the distance and clinches up with Archer, looking for a takedown. Alvarez pushes Archer against the cage but Archer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Alvarez throws a body punch but Archer moves out of range.
Alvarez misses with a takedown
and Archer counters with a stiff right hand.
Archer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alvarez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Archer lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


Alvarez is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Alvarez walks straight into a right hand from Archer - that's dropped him! Archer jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Alvarez from any more punishment! Alvarez complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Robert Archer!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Robert Archer waved his t-shirt featuring Worldwide Nutrition (160q)'s logo in front of the cameras.
The defeated James Alvarez had this to say: 'I may have lost but I will be back stronger.'.
