The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Gafurov. Those never looked like landing.
Gafurov is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Chavez's half guard.
Gafurov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chavez defends it well.
Gafurov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gafurov decides to return to a standing position.
Gafurov throws a big shot that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chavez fails with a takedown attempt.

Gafurov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chavez did well to prevent Gafurov getting side control.
Gafurov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chavez is just riding it out for now. Gafurov eventually gives up the hold.
Gafurov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chavez keeps working.
Gafurov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gafurov wants to work for an arm triangle but Chavez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gafurov works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gafurov lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Gafurov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chavez is looking to escape.
Gafurov has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Chavez is forced to tap!
