Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zehri Umrani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mamluk Abasid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zehri Umrani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mamluk Abasid!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abasid moves in looking to clinch but Umrani pushes him off.

Umrani shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Umrani slows the pace down in half guard.
Abasid is looking to control Umrani's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Abasid avoid being mounted?
Umrani controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like Umrani is going to stand back up.
Abasid wants to get back to full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Umrani sitting and controlling from the half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Umrani will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Abasid gets caught flat footed, as Umrani shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Abasid is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Umrani is controlling him.

Umrani loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Umrani has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Umrani slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Abasid trying to control the position.
Umrani preventing the sweep.
Umrani knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Abasid on the ground.

Umrani avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Abasid wants to sweep here but Umrani controlling him for the moment.
Abasid trying to keep a closed guard but Umrani is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Abasid tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Umrani paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Umrani rushes Abasid and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Umrani is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Abasid can't fight it off and eventually Umrani manages to take the fight to the floor. Abasid looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Umrani slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Abasid avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Abasid keeping moving, preventing Umrani from controlling successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Umrani wants to stand but Abasid is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zehri Umrani dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Abasid tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Umrani manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Abasid looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Abasid closes this distance looking for a takedown but Umrani circles away.
No luck for Abasid with that takedown attempt.
Zehri Umrani has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mamluk Abasid.
Umrani keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Abasid looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Umrani shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Umrani was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Umrani takes a little break here. Abasid wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Abasid is looking for a sweep.
Abasid can't do much from the bottom here.
Abasid takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Umrani controlling the position.
Zehri Umrani overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Abasid tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Umrani tries to stand but Abasid is controlling his head.

Umrani looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Umrani lands an elbow.
Abasid is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Abasid is looking to reverse the position.
Umrani is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Abasid can do to turn this around?
Umrani lands a decent elbow from side control.
Umrani lands some shots froms side control.
Abasid is trying to get back to half guard.

Umrani tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Umrani controlling from side mount.
Abasid is not content to let Umrani control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Umrani shoots in and gets a takedown into Abasid's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zehri Umrani dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Abasid wants to clinch up but Umrani keeps it at a distance.
Umrani wants to slow Abasid down by chopping away at his legs.

Umrani looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Umrani stays in close to Abasid's body and controls the position.
Umrani wants to stand but Abasid has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Abasid throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Umrani pushing down on Abasid's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Umrani trying to pass the guard but Abasid defending well.
Abasid is trying to stand.
Abasid wants to improve his position but Umrani is controlling well.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Umrani seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abasid throws a body shot but no joy.

Umrani shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Umrani was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Umrani creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Abasid is looking to regain half guard here but Umrani keeps moving and retains side control.
Umrani trying to control the action but Abasid is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Abasid trying to remain calm as Umrani controls from the top position.

Abasid is looking for a sweep.
Umrani landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Abasid is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abasid is trying to buck Umrani off.
Umrani throws an elbow but Abasid slips to the side and avoids it well.
Abasid struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Umrani is looking to take a break and control but Abasid is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Umrani closes the distance and clinches.

Umrani escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Umrani shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Abasid's guard.
Abasid wants to sweep here but Umrani controlling him for the moment.

Abasid working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Umrani doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Umrani manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Abasid is looking to stand up but Umrani isn't so interested in that idea.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zehri Umrani showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Umrani has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
