PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danilo Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubba Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Red comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Black Stone Cherry Bulldozer kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Bubba Red acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danilo Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bubba Red!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Red falls off balance throwing a combination

and Reed counters by moving into the clinch.
Reed has Red pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Red manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Red tries to land knees in the clinch but Reed avoids the damage to the body.

Red is trying to trip Reed. He has hold of a leg but Reed is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Red persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Red tries to stand but Reed is controlling from the bottom.
Reed could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Red seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red trying to control but Reed is working from the bottom.
Reed might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Red won't allow Reed to get back to his feet.
Red sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Reed's guard.
Well, if Red is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like Red might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Red wants to control but Reed is keeping him busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Red throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reed tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Red is in Reed's guard.

Red in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Reed is looking for a triangle but Red pushes his legs off easily.
Red pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Reed is keeping the position for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reed is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Red would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Red shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Reed napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Red decides to stand up, so the ref orders Reed to his feet.
Reed fails with a takedown attempt.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Red paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Red looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reed is staying active underneath Red, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Reed is trying to stand.
Red trying to control the action but Reed is working from the bottom.
Red slows the pace down in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reed is refusing to be controlled, as Red sits in half guard.

Red shoots in and bounces Reed off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Reed keeping full guard, as Red tries to pass.
Reed wants to sweep here but Red controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red is looking to pass into half guard but Reed pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Reed is in guard.

Reed throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Red works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Reed postures up in Red's guard and throws a big left but Red blocks it.
Reed in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Red has his hands on Reed's head, controlling the position.
Red is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reed working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Reed won't allow Red to get back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Reed landing some decent shots from guard.
Reed missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Red fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reed, pushing him back against the cage.
Reed fails to pull guard.
Red with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Red prevents a takedown attempt there.

Red has clasped his hands together around Reed's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Red has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reed manages to work his way to half guard, despite Red's best efforts.
Red trying to control the action but Reed is working from the bottom.
Red not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Red thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Red really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reed. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Red seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Red shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Reed's guard.

Red looking to sit in guard and control but Reed gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reed postures up in Red's guard and throws a big left but Red blocks it.

Bubba Red showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Red wants to work for an arm triangle but Reed is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Red looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reed is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Red's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Red's back!
Red tries to escape but Reed has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Red covering up well under a barage of strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Reed is looking for a choke. Red gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Red manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Red controlling from the top position.

Red stands up from Reed's guard - Red perhaps looking for a knockout.

Red closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reed quickly recovers to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed tries to roll over but Red keeps him under control.
Red wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reed keeps working.

Red seems to be working for a kimura but Reed defends the submission attempt.

Reed won't allow Red to pass to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bubba Red comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Red has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Bubba Red rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
