The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gomi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maeda is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maeda has escaped and now he's on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gomi can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maeda wants to control from the top but Gomi keeps moving.

Maeda tries to clinch but Gomi is having none of it.
Gomi shoots in looking for a takedown. Maeda tries to sprawl out of it but Gomi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maeda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Horrible takedown by Gomi or perhaps it was just good defense by Maeda which made him look bad.
