PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Hudson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Gondim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pierre Hudson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Felipe Gondim!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hudson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gondim has time to react.

Gondim manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hudson on his heels. He'll look to pass Hudson's guard now, I'm sure.

Gondim drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gondim jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hudson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gondim defends it easily.
Gondim has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hudson is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hudson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gondim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gondim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hudson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gondim is aware though and is defending well.

Hudson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gondim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gondim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gondim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hudson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gondim has managed to get both his arms back between Hudson's legs - danger averted.
Gondim wants to stand but Hudson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gondim passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hudson is trying to stand up here but Gondim is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gondim pushes Hudson up against the cage in a clinch.
Hudson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hudson is trying to push Gondim away but Gondim has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Gondim breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hudson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Gondim rushes Hudson and presses him up against the cage.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gondim content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hudson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Felipe Gondim has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hudson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hudson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hudson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gondim is looking to reverse the position.

Gondim manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hudson's best efforts.
Hudson is trying to control. Gondim wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Gondim wants to get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hudson tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Gondim has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Hudson manages to escape to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gondim.

Gondim is trying to get an arm triangle but Hudson is defending well.
Hudson is pushing Gondim's head away, looking to escape. Gondim manages to hold on to the position though.

Felipe Gondim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Gondim dives in and scores a takedown into Hudson's guard.

Hudson has his foot on Gondim's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gondim works his way back into a safe position though.

Gondim controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hudson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gondim loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gondim misses with a leg kick.
Felipe Gondim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gondim fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hudson, pushing him back against the cage.
Hudson is trying to break free.

Gondim manages to break the clinch.

Gondim gets caught flat footed, as Hudson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hudson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gondim manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hudson manages to get himself to full guard.

Gondim is keen to just control but Hudson is a slippery customer.

Gondim has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hudson gets back to full guard.

Gondim avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gondim wants to stand but Hudson is controlling his posture from full guard.

Gondim is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hudson defends it well.

Felipe Gondim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gondim has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
