PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Terrance Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spider Fire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Spider Fire was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Terrance Doyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Spider Fire!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fire circles away from the clinch attempt.
Spider Fire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Doyle fails with an attempt to clinch.

Doyle pushes Fire up against the cage in a clinch.
Fire tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Doyle's elbow.
Fire tries to pull guard but Doyle forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Fire stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Fire is trying to push Doyle away but Doyle has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fire can't break the clinch.

Fire breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fire misses with a body punch
and Fire takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Doyle fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fire throws a front kick aimed at Doyle's knee but Doyle avoids it well.
Fire is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fire or perhaps it was just good defense by Doyle, which made it look bad.

Fire clinches.

Fire drags the fight down to the ground.
Fire working a defensive guard here.
Doyle won't allow Fire to sweep him here.
Doyle is looking to stand up but Fire won't let him.
Doyle could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fire trying to keep a closed guard but Doyle is proving a slippery customer.

Fire throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Doyle wants to stand and escape but instead Fire has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Fire has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Doyle is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fire drops back looking for a leg! Doyle is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Doyle manages to kick Fire off! Fire jumps back into Doyle's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doyle looking to control.

Fire drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fire jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fire wants to pass the guard but Doyle is keeping the position.
Fire is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fire throws a big right hand that misses.
Doyle keeping moving, preventing Fire from controlling successfully.
Fire content to stall in guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fire stops Doyle from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spider Fire dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Fire closes the distance and clinches.
Fire fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Fire manages to break the clinch.
Fire circles away from the clinch attempt.
Fire goes for a double leg but Doyle avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Doyle continues to drive forward.
Terrance Doyle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fire rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Doyle counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Fire keeps the fight on the outside.
Fire with the counter takedown but Doyle avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fire shoots in for a takedown but Doyle shows good takedown defense.
Doyle tried to counter with a leg kick but Fire avoided it.
Terrance Doyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Spider Fire.

Fire gets the takedown into side control.
Doyle wants to control but Fire postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fire thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fire in side control, throwing shots but Doyle defends.
Doyle tries to buck Fire off but Fire is having none of it.
Fire tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Fire misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Fire working away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fire wants to control but Doyle is keeping him busy.
Fire creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Doyle sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Fire is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Doyle knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Fire trying to control the action but Doyle is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Fire crashes against the mat.
Doyle is being controlled here.
Doyle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fire on the ground.
Doyle avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fire.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Fire closes this distance looking for a takedown but Doyle circles away.

Fire drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Fire misses with the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fire wants to stand but Doyle is controlling his arm.
Fire is trying to ground and pound but Doyle uses the momentary lack of control by Fire to regain half guard.
Doyle is trying to stand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fire throwing shots but Doyle is blocking nicely.
Doyle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Fire is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Fire is thwarting Doyle's attempts to control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spider Fire showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Fire clinches up against the cage.
Fire tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Doyle smiles and moves away.

Fire clinches with his opponent.
Doyle tries to pull guard but Fire holds him up against the cage and eventually Doyle drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Doyle fails to pull guard.
Fire jumps guard but Doyle turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fire pulls guard.
Fire wants to get back to his feet but Doyle is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Fire looking to control.
Fire has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Doyle postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Fire is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Doyle, into his guard.

Fire tries to stand but Doyle is controlling from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doyle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fire controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doyle is trying to keep Fire in close.
Fire is looking to stand up but Doyle won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fire is stalling in the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fire falls off balance throwing a combination
and Doyle finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Fire shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Doyle defends it nicely.
Terrance Doyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Spider Fire.
Fire doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Doyle counters with an inside leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fire darts in looking for a takedown but Doyle gets double underhooks and turns Fire into the cage.
Doyle throws a quick counter head kick but Fire was just out of range.
A bone on bone clash there as Doyle blocks the leg kick.
Fire fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fire takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Fire misses with a wild body shot.
Fire throws a head kick that misses
and Doyle counters with a nice uppercut.

Doyle shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doyle showed some decent athleticism there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Doyle blocks the strikes from Fire.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Terrance Doyle.
I think Fire has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
