PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Nicholson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Michael Jordan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dylan Nicholson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Jordan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Nicholson or perhaps it was just good defense by Jordan, which made it look bad.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jordan tries to break free but Nicholson pushes him back against the cage.
Jordan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nicholson's efforts to push away.
Nicholson struggles to land a body shot inside as Jordan controls his hands.
A frustrated look appears on Nicholson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nicholson wants to get back to striking at distance but Jordan won't allow it.
Jordan keeps control of Nicholson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jordan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nicholson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jordan successfully pulls guard.

Jordan working for a triangle but Nicholson defends it easily.

Jordan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Nicholson stands and steps away. Jordan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Jordan throws a leg kick which misses Nicholson's front leg but catches the back leg as Nicholson tries to avoid it.
Jordan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Nicholson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jordan swivels and escapes.

Jordan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nicholson is trying to defend but Jordan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Jordan thows a huge punch but Nicholson dodges it nicely.

Nicholson is looking to improve his position.

Jordan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jordan wants to take a breather but Nicholson is having none of it.
Jordan prevents Nicholson from improving his position.

Jordan sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Nicholson defending well though.

Nicholson holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Nicholson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jordan gets underhooks to prevent Nicholson's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Nicholson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nicholson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jordan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Nicholson prevents Jordan from getting back to his feet.

Jordan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jordan tries to strike from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nicholson throws a strike but Jordan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Let's hope that Jordan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nicholson misses with a takedown

and Jordan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jordan pulls Nicholson into guard.
Nicholson tries to stand but Jordan is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jordan is trying to keep Nicholson in close.
Jordan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nicholson's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jordan trying to control but Nicholson is working from the bottom.
Nicholson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jordan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nicholson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nicholson wants to control but Jordan is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like Nicholson is going to stand back up.
Jordan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nicholson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jordan is trying to control but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jordan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jordan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Nicholson wants to free his trapped foot but Jordan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Nicholson is trying to control the action in half guard but Jordan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Nicholson prevents Jordan from improving his position.
Nicholson wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nicholson fails with the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jordan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nicholson defends it nicely.
Jordan fails with the takedown.
Jordan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nicholson pinned against the cage. Nicholson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dylan Nicholson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Jordan.

Jordan closes the distance and clinches.

Nicholson fails to pull guard.

Nicholson pulls guard successfully.
Nicholson trying to control the position.
Jordan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nicholson is proving hard to escape from.
Jordan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jordan wants to control from the top but Nicholson keeps moving.

Jordan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Nicholson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Nicholson has escaped and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dylan Nicholson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Jordan shoots in looking for a takedown but Nicholson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jordan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nicholson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jordan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jordan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nicholson shoots in looking for a takedown. Jordan tries to sprawl out of it but Nicholson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jordan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jordan takes a head kick and keeps coming.

It looks like Dylan Nicholson has been cut.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Jordan! Nicholson is backing up but he can't get away as Jordan lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Nicholson and ends the fight. Great knockout.
