PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mitch Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wallace McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGregor has chosen Daft Punk - Derezzed (Robtaki Remix) as his entrance music. Wallace McGregor will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitch Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wallace McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Castro clinches.

McGregor breaks the clinch.
McGregor throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Castro closes the distance and pushes McGregor back into the cage.
McGregor tries to break free but Castro pushes him back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on McGregor's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Castro prevents McGregor from breaking the clinch.
McGregor wants to break the clinch but can't.
McGregor tries to circle away but Castro has him pinned against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGregor pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A low kick from McGregor misses
and Castro counters with a nice uppercut.

McGregor moves into the clinch.
Castro throws a head punch that misses.
McGregor wants to break free but Castro has control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McGregor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McGregor tries to bum rush Castro with a series of wild strikes but Castro uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Castro leaves McGregor with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
McGregor swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Castro counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Castro decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Sloppy strikes from McGregor. Those never looked like landing.
McGregor tries to score a power double leg takedown but Castro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McGregor somewhat.
Castro changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
McGregor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McGregor throws a left and a right that both miss
and Castro counters with a nice uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGregor throws a combination that misses
and Castro counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McGregor looks winded!
McGregor has his takedown stuffed
and Castro counters with a two punch combo.
Mitch Castro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wallace McGregor.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Castro is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
No luck for Castro with that takedown attempt.
Castro sets himself, and McGregor steps forward looking for the clinch! Castro avoids it this time.
McGregor avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Castro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McGregor, pushing him back against the cage.

Castro escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

McGregor clinches.
Castro's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
McGregor scores with an uppercut up the middle.
McGregor blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
McGregor wants to break the clinch but can't.
McGregor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Castro keeps control of McGregor as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
McGregor working hard to break the clinch.
Castro using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McGregor has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Castro breaks from the clinch.
Castro blocks a head kick by McGregor.
Castro shoots in looking for a takedown. McGregor tries to sprawl out of it but Castro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGregor manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGregor fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McGregor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Castro checks a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mitch Castro will probably get the nod.
That's time! Castro's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



McGregor moves into the clinch successfully.
Castro stops a takedown attempt from McGregor.
Castro swings wildly with an uppercut but McGregor uses good head movement to avoid it.
McGregor wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
McGregor fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Castro keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McGregor's efforts to push away.
Castro prevents McGregor from breaking the clinch.

McGregor jumps guard but Castro turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mitch Castro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wallace McGregor.

McGregor throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Castro counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wallace McGregor seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Castro rushes McGregor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

McGregor manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

McGregor ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McGregor no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

McGregor fails with the takedown

and Castro counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
McGregor is breathing heavily.
Castro trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McGregor thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
McGregor is looking to stand back up but Castro counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by McGregor.

Castro looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

No joy there for McGregor, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Castro changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
No luck for Castro with that takedown attempt.
McGregor misses with a double jab
and Castro counters with a stiff right hand.
Castro tests McGregor's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Castro moves into range and clinches up with McGregor.
McGregor tries for a takedown but Castro manages to get underhooks.
McGregor wants to break free but Castro has control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McGregor misses with a short punch on the inside.
Castro landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McGregor has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Castro is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Castro can't find room to land a body shot as McGregor controls the action.

I think Castro has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
