Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcello Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dougie Poynter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dougie Poynter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcello Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dougie Poynter!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Poynter shoots in and bounces Gonzalez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Poynter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gonzalez working for a triangle but Poynter defends it easily.
Gonzalez trying to control the position.
Poynter controls from within his opponent's guard.

Gonzalez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Poynter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Poynter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Poynter has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gonzalez is proving hard to escape from.
Poynter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gonzalez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Poynter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Poynter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Poynter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Poynter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gonzalez tries to close the distance and clinch but Poynter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Poynter has closed the distance and engaged Gonzalez in a clinch.
Poynter is working for takedown but Gonzalez is calmly controlling the position for now.

Poynter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is looking to take a break and control but Poynter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Poynter chipping away with strikes from the bottom.
Poynter tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gonzalez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poynter is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Poynter wants to get back to his feet.
Poynter looks gassed!
Poynter is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gonzalez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gonzalez's back!

Gonzalez is in bad spot here.
Gonzalez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Poynter's guard. Nice work there by Gonzalez.

Poynter looking for a guillotine here but Gonzalez defends easily.
Gonzalez passes Poynter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Poynter tries to roll over but Gonzalez keeps him under control.
Gonzalez uses his free foot to push down on Poynter's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Poynter.
Poynter should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Poynter really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Gonzalez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Poynter can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Gonzalez wants to control but instead Poynter manages to regain half guard.
Poynter tries to roll over but Gonzalez keeps him under control.
Poynter manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dougie Poynter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Poynter circles away from the clinch attempt
enabling Poynter to counter with a crisp jab.
Gonzalez tries for a takedown but Poynter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Poynter digs a good body shot into Gonzalez's ribs.
A combination from Gonzalez does no damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Poynter misses with a hook. Gonzalez ducked under it nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Poynter tries to clinch up but Gonzalez circles away and keeps his distance.
Poynter closes the distance and clinches up with Gonzalez, looking for a takedown. Poynter pushes Gonzalez against the cage but Gonzalez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Poynter throws a head kick but Gonzalez moves out of range.

Gonzalez tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Poynter counters with a takedown into side control.

Poynter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Poynter trying to control the position but Gonzalez is working away.
Poynter wants to stand but Gonzalez has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Poynter passes Gonzalez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Gonzalez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Poynter is working away from the top position though.
Poynter is tying to control. Gonzalez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Poynter prevents Gonzalez from improving his position.

Poynter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Poynter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gonzalez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gonzalez is looking to control Poynter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gonzalez avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Poynter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Poynter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Poynter throwing strikes here but Gonzalez is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Poynter scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Gonzalez?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gonzalez tries to lock up and control but Poynter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gonzalez tries to reverse the position but Poynter maintains control.

Poynter stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Gonzalez wants to clinch up but Poynter keeps it at a distance.

Poynter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Poynter seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dougie Poynter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Poynter counters with a single leg into guard. Gonzalez didn't expect that.

Gonzalez looking for a guillotine here but Poynter defends easily.

Poynter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Poynter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gonzalez is keeping the position for now.

Poynter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gonzalez dives on top into guard.
Gonzalez wants to control from the top but Poynter keeps moving.

Gonzalez advances position into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gonzalez is working to tighten is grip on Poynter's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Poynter has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Gonzalez is really squeezing tight and eventually Poynter passes out! Gonzalez breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
