The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barakus postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Barakus wants to control from the top but Simpson keeps moving.

Barakus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Simpson, up you get!
Simpson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barakus swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Simpson closes the distance and pushes Barakus back into the cage.

We've been hearing reports that Simpson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Barakus successfully pulls guard.
Simpson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Simpson throws a strike but Barakus rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Barakus drops back looking for a leg! Simpson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Simpson manages to kick Barakus off! Barakus jumps back into Simpson's guard.
