Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Demarcus Stephens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Hayes!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stephens pushes Hayes up against the cage in a clinch.
Stephens looking to throw knees to the head but Hayes is blocking nicely.

Hayes pulls guard.
Stephens tries to stand but Hayes is controlling from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hayes can do anything to dispel that myth.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hayes is on top in guard.

Hayes wants to get up but he can't break Stephens's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stephens looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hayes is one step ahead there.
Hayes trying to control the position from guard on top but Stephens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hayes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stephens manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hayes has Stephens in his guard.

Stephens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Stephens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Hayes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Hayes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stephens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stephens wants to stand but Hayes has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Hayes is striking but Stephens is not phased and passes to half guard.
Stephens wants to stand up but Hayes is controlling the position.

Hayes flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hayes wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hayes stuns Stephens with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Robert Hayes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hayes tries to close the distance and clinch but Stephens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hayes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stephens sprawls well initially but Hayes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hayes is trying to control the action in half guard but Stephens is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hayes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Stephens has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hayes wants to work for an arm triangle but Stephens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Hayes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hayes tries to work over Stephens's front leg with a kick but Stephens checks it.
Stephens is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Hayes keeps control of Stephens as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Hayes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Hayes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Stephens wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hayes manages to pass to side control.

Hayes is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Stephens to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stephens shrugs it off.

Hayes is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Stephens takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Robert Hayes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hayes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
