Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jason Vezina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Askren!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vezina throws a left and a right that both miss

and Askren counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Vezina!
Vezina can't do much from the bottom here.
The strikes coming from Askren are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Askren tries to move to mount but Vezina blocks the move with his legs.
Askren cracks Vezina with a big right hand but Vezina just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Vezina is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Askren has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Askren in side control lands a decent elbow.
Askren looks up at the clock and then as Vezina takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Askren smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Askren wants to control but Vezina is keeping him busy.
Askren is staying tight to Vezina's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Vezina gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Vezina tries to lock up and control but Askren gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Askren cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Vezina is in a horrible position here. Askren smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Vezina is rocked!
Askren is landing with some decent strikes but Vezina is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Oh Vezina is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Askren lands with some strikes.
Askren postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Vezina bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Askren and the fight is over!

Jon Askren decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
