Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ross Rhea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Valtellini!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Ben Hemmingworth and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valtellini looks to clinch
and Rhea counters with a one-two to the body.
Rhea lands a leg kick that knocks Valtellini off balance momentarily.
Rhea ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Valtellini tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rhea counters with a single leg into guard. Valtellini didn't expect that.
Rhea trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rhea stays in close to Valtellini's body and controls the position.
Valtellini wants to stand up but Rhea is controlling him.
Rhea is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rhea prevents Valtellini from getting back to his feet.
Rhea throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Valtellini works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rhea slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rhea keeps the fight on the outside.

Rhea scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Valtellini wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Rhea has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Valtellini's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Valtellini is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Rhea!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ross Rhea!
Ross Rhea decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
