Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cyril Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hung Nguyen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hung Nguyen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cyril Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hung Nguyen!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed shoots for a takedown but Nguyen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Reed shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

And Nguyen tries to counter it with a takedown but Reed pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cyril Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nguyen throws a series of punches but Reed moves out of range.

Nguyen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reed looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Reed gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Nguyen tries to pass to full mount but Reed defends it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reed blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nguyen.

Nguyen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Reed doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nguyen.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reed slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Nguyen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Reed shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Reed gets caught napping as Nguyen dives in and scores a takedown. Reed manages to retain guard.

Nguyen wanted to stand there but Reed had control of the position.
Reed wants to improve his position but instead Nguyen has moved into half guard.

Nguyen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reed knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Nguyen wants to pass to mount but Reed is defending the position.

Nguyen wants to work for an arm triangle but Reed is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Reed fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Nguyen fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Reed to the ground. Nguyen is now in Reed's guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Nguyen. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Reed is looking for a triangle but Nguyen pushes his legs off easily.
Reed is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nguyen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reed seems to be looking for submissions.

Reed is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Nguyen defends it well.
Reed wants to stand up but Nguyen is controlling the position.

Reed is thwarting Nguyen's attempts to control the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nguyen is looking to improve his position.

Reed is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Nguyen has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nguyen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nguyen.

Nguyen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Reed defends it easily.
Nguyen is breathing heavily.

Reed has gone for a leg lock! Nguyen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Reed's guard.

Reed throws a couple of heel strikes.
Reed not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Reed keeping moving, preventing Nguyen from controlling successfully.
Nguyen postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nguyen is looking to work some ground and pound but Reed has wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nguyen leaves Reed with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nguyen takes a swing at Reed's ribcage but misses.
Reed is looking to counter the offense by Nguyen and move into the clinch.
Cyril Reed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nguyen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Reed's half guard.

Nguyen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hung Nguyen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Reed enables Nguyen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Reed manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Reed throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Nguyen is looking to stand up but Reed won't let him.
Nguyen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Reed tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Reed escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nguyen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Reed dives in for a single leg takedown but Nguyen sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nguyen lands with a nice combination. Reed backs away looking to recover.

Reed looking to score a takedown here. Nguyen is defending well but Reed drives through and ends up in Nguyen's guard.
Nguyen is pulling down on Reed's head. It's preventing any offense from Reed, at least for the moment.
Nguyen wants to stand up but Reed is controlling him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nguyen can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nguyen throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Reed won't allow Nguyen to get back to his feet.
Reed won't allow Nguyen to sweep him here.
Nguyen has a closed guard, preventing Reed from standing up.

Reed gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Nguyen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

You can see the frustration on Reed's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Nguyen scores with a couple of short elbows.

Nguyen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nguyen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Reed tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nguyen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nguyen tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Reed is looking to regain half guard here but Nguyen keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Reed.

Reed dives in and grabs Nguyen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nguyen pushes down on Reed's head and hops out.
Nguyen feints the counter takedown.
Cyril Reed has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hung Nguyen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Nguyen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
