PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richard Kingston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keven Vaillancourt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kingston comes into the arena with Heavy by Collective Soul blaring out of the sound system. Vaillancourt is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: This is the new shit. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Richard Kingston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keven Vaillancourt!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Kingston.

Vaillancourt has managed to clinch.

Vaillancourt has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kingston clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Kingston breaks Vaillancourt's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kingston is pushing down on Vaillancourt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vaillancourt is fighting to maintain full guard but Kingston has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kingston decides to stand and escape the position.
Vaillancourt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kingston bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vaillancourt is trying to control Kingston's posture but Kingston avoids it.

Kingston decides to stand up, so the ref orders Vaillancourt to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Kingston counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Vaillancourt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kingston has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vaillancourt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kingston's guard.

Kingston has his feet on Vaillancourt's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Vaillancourt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vaillancourt wants to work for an arm triangle but Kingston is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Vaillancourt is looking to take a break and control but Kingston is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kingston tries to get to full guard but Vaillancourt has control of the leg.
Vaillancourt is looking to pass Kingston's guard but actually Kingston recovers to full guard.
Kingston keeping moving, preventing Vaillancourt from controlling successfully.
Vaillancourt won't allow Kingston to sweep him here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kingston clinches.
Vaillancourt is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Kingston is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Vaillancourt can't fight it off and eventually Kingston manages to take the fight to the floor. Vaillancourt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Richard Kingston will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Vaillancourt decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Kingston wants to improve his position but Vaillancourt is controlling well.
Vaillancourt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kingston does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Vaillancourt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Vaillancourt looks to land a strike but Kingston avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Kingston is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kingston shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vaillancourt as he avoids it easily.

and Kingston counters with a three punch combo that has Vaillancourt backing up. Vaillancourt nods at Kingston to acknowledge the strikes.

Vaillancourt shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kingston counters with a good low kick that Vaillancourt was not able to check.
Vaillancourt throws a jab but it's blocked by Kingston.
Vaillancourt moves out of range as Kingston throws a body kick.

so Vaillancourt counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vaillancourt wants to control from the top but Kingston keeps moving.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kingston is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Vaillancourt takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kingston tries to roll over but Vaillancourt keeps him under control.

Keven Vaillancourt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Vaillancourt instigates a clinch.

Kingston turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kingston manages to end up in side control.

Kingston decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kingston tries for a takedown but Vaillancourt sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vaillancourt bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Vaillancourt thows a body kick. Kingston tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Kingston stuffs the takedown attempt from Vaillancourt. Vaillancourt gets slowly back to his feet.
Vaillancourt tries to clinch there but Kingston circles away.

Kingston tries to bum rush Vaillancourt with a series of wild strikes but Vaillancourt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Kingston is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vaillancourt's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vaillancourt's back!

Kingston working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vaillancourt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vaillancourt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
