PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hiroshi Kobayashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Uhrbrand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Kobayashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nick Uhrbrand!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kobayashi punishes Uhrbrand's body with a nice straight punch.
Kobayashi throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kobayashi misses with a two punch combination.
A solid body kick from Kobayashi.
Uhrbrand closes the distance and clinches up with Kobayashi, looking for a takedown. Uhrbrand pushes Kobayashi against the cage but Kobayashi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

so Uhrbrand counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Uhrbrand gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kobayashi has his foot on Uhrbrand's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Uhrbrand works his way back into a safe position though.
Kobayashi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Uhrbrand trying to control the position from guard on top but Kobayashi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kobayashi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kobayashi had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Uhrbrand is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kobayashi Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Uhrbrand's back instead.
Kobayashi is breathing heavily.
Uhrbrand rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Uhrbrand tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Uhrbrand looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kobayashi puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Kobayashi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Uhrbrand keeps working.

Uhrbrand doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Uhrbrand is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Uhrbrand is trying to control the action in half guard but Kobayashi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Uhrbrand wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kobayashi keeps working.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kobayashi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Uhrbrand, up you get!

Kobayashi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Uhrbrand looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Uhrbrand is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kobayashi stands up and beckons Uhrbrand to his feet.

and Kobayashi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hiroshi Kobayashi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Uhrbrand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Uhrbrand is looking to stand up but Kobayashi isn't so interested in that idea.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kobayashi is pushing down on Uhrbrand's leg trying to pass to half guard. Uhrbrand is fighting to maintain full guard but Kobayashi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kobayashi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Kobayashi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kobayashi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Uhrbrand is just riding it out for now. Kobayashi eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Uhrbrand wants to control but Kobayashi is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kobayashi throws a sloppy head kick and Uhrbrand moves out of range easily.
Uhrbrand fails in his attempt to clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kobayashi is desperately trying to improve his position but Uhrbrand has a good base and remains in mount.
Kobayashi is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Kobayashi tries to hold on but Uhrbrand pushes him away.

Uhrbrand is staying active underneath Kobayashi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kobayashi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kobayashi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Uhrbrand does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kobayashi avoids a punch combination nicely.

Kobayashi feints and as Uhrbrand raises his hands in defense, Kobayashi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Uhrbrand wants to stand up but Kobayashi is controlling him.
Uhrbrand is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kobayashi stands and steps away. Uhrbrand gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Kobayashi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
