Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vandis Campeno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vandis Campeno!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn shoots in and bounces Campeno off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Penn wants to control from the top but Campeno keeps moving.
Campeno has Penn pulled in close to control his posture.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Penn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Penn stopping the sweep attempt from Campeno.
Campeno is trying to control the position but Penn postures up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Campeno keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Penn works a leg free and moves into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Penn is keen to just control but Campeno is a slippery customer.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Campeno doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.
Penn stops Campeno from getting back to his feet.

Campeno keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Penn wants to control but Campeno is keeping him busy.

Penn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Campeno is just riding it out for now. Penn eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Still in half guard, Penn seems content to control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Penn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Penn.
Penn fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Campeno scores with a body shot.
Campeno throws a jab when Penn was well out of range.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Campeno throws the left hand but Penn avoids the punch easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

and Penn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Penn.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Penn ducks under a wild hook from Campeno.
Penn throws a head kick but Campeno moves out of range.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Campeno but Campeno pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Penn walks into a stiff left hand from Campeno.
Penn circles away from the clinch attempt.

Penn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Penn lands in his opponent's guard.
Penn wants to pass the guard but Campeno is keeping the position.
Penn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Campeno wants to sweep here but Penn controlling him for the moment.
Campeno manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Penn manages to get himself to full guard.

Penn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Campeno gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Campeno stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Penn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Penn keeping moving, preventing Campeno from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Campeno must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Campeno stopping the sweep attempt from Penn.

Penn has his foot on Campeno's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Campeno works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Penn wants to get back to his feet but Campeno is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Campeno wanted to stand there but Penn had control of the position.
Penn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Campeno is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Penn dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Penn cracks Campeno with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Vandis Campeno has been cut.

Penn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Campeno looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Penn trying to control the position but Campeno is working away.

Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Penn is trying to get an arm triangle but Campeno is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Campeno can't do much from the bottom here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Penn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Penn is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Campeno is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Campeno tries to bench press Penn off him but Penn keeps the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Campeno takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Penn taking a break here but Campeno is having none of it and regains half guard.
Penn is keen to just control but Campeno is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Penn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
