PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ashin Sukumaran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Crosby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ashin Sukumaran!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crosby tries to bum rush Sukumaran with a series of wild strikes but Sukumaran uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sukumaran looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Sukumaran clinches up against the cage.
Sukumaran told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Crosby wants to get back to striking at distance but Sukumaran won't allow it.
Crosby jumps guard but Sukumaran turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Sukumaran ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sukumaran no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Sukumaran has a closed guard, preventing Crosby from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sukumaran looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Crosby wants to stand and escape but instead Sukumaran has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Sukumaran throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Sukumaran passes Crosby's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Sukumaran stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Crosby to get to his feet.
Crosby throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Sukumaran.

Crosby shoots in and gets a takedown into Sukumaran's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sukumaran controlling the position.
Sukumaran wants to control but Crosby passes easily into half guard.
Sukumaran wants to improve his position but Crosby is controlling well.

Crosby is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sukumaran is concentrating on defense, preventing Crosby from advancing position.

Crosby is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sukumaran wants to control but Crosby is keeping busy.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Crosby is working for a kimura but Sukumaran is defending it quite comfortably.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Crosby gets caught napping as Sukumaran dives in and scores a takedown. Crosby manages to retain guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Crosby has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sukumaran can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sukumaran is pushing down on Crosby's leg trying to pass to half guard. Crosby is fighting to maintain full guard but Sukumaran has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sukumaran perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Crosby is in trouble now - Sukumaran has advanced to mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Crosby is squirming around, avoiding Sukumaran's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ashin Sukumaran dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Sukumaran shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sukumaran was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Crosby is looking to regain half guard here but Sukumaran keeps moving and retains side control.
Crosby is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sukumaran is controlling him well.

Sukumaran is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Crosby is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crosby is looking to reverse the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crosby is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sukumaran asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Sukumaran is breathing heavily.
Crosby is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Sukumaran is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Sukumaran landing punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crosby is looking to get to half guard.
Sukumaran controlling the pace for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sukumaran tries to control but Crosby wriggling away.
Sukumaran controlling his opponent.
Sukumaran manages to capitalize on a mistake by Crosby to take his back!
Sukumaran is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Sukumaran scores with strikes from the back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sukumaran scores with punches to the body.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Sukumaran controlling the positon.
Sukumaran is looking to control Crosby but Crosby is wriggling around and keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sukumaran controlling the position well here. Crosby rolled but Sukumaran kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Sukumaran is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sukumaran keeps control of the position easily here as Crosby tries to buck him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ashin Sukumaran showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Crosby misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sukumaran is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Sukumaran dives in and scores a takedown into Crosby's guard.
Crosby looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sukumaran is one step ahead there.

Sukumaran drops back looking for a leg! Crosby is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Crosby manages to kick Sukumaran off! Sukumaran jumps back into Crosby's guard.

Crosby isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sukumaran stacks Crosby on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sukumaran!
Sukumaran takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sukumaran is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Crosby tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sukumaran gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Sukumaran is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Crosby up.
Crosby is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Sukumaran.
Crosby knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sukumaran on the ground.

Sukumaran looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Crosby taps!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ashin Sukumaran!
Ashin Sukumaran took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
