PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Alvarado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bentonic Velent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velent has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Samuel Alvarado had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samuel Alvarado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bentonic Velent!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velent throws a wild body kick that Alvarado sees coming a mile off.
Alvarado throws a big counter combination but Velent scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Velent looks winded!

Velent looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Alvarado!
Alvarado is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Velent has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Alvarado explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Alvarado pushes Velent up against the cage in a clinch.

Alvarado manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Velent manages to get himself to full guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alvarado has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alvarado drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alvarado jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velent can do anything to dispel that myth.

Alvarado has closed the distance and engaged Velent in a clinch.

Alvarado gets control of Velent's arms and successfully pulls guard. Alvarado will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Alvarado has taken the fight to the clinch.

Alvarado has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Velent uses from the top position.
Alvarado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Alvarado has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velent can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Alvarado is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Velent can do to turn this around?

Alvarado tries to close the distance and clinch but Velent swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Alvarado shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Alvarado wants to work for an arm triangle but Velent is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Alvarado bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velent's guard.

Alvarado's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Velent throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Alvarado is looking to counter punch.

Velent feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Alvarado has his feet on Velent's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alvarado shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Velent as he jumps to the side.

Alvarado will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Velent up against the cage.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Alvarado is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Velent has his hands clasped together but Alvarado extends and breaks Velent's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Alvarado.
