PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Barry Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devon Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Barry Jacobs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Devon Clark!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacobs throws a looping overhand right but Clark ducks down to avoid it.

Clark is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jacobs's half guard.
Clark takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Clark tries to stand and escape but Jacobs is controlling the position.

Clark stands up out of the half guard.
Jacobs tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clark sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jacobs somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Clark drives through with a takedown into Jacobs's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Clark stays in close to Jacobs's body and controls the position.

Jacobs throws a head kick but Clark moves out of range.
Jacobs shoots for a double leg takedown but Clark sprawls well. He's pushed Jacobs's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jacobs looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Clark counters with a body kick.

Clark closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Clark lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jacobs is looking to stand up but Clark isn't so interested in that idea.
Jacobs wants to sweep but no luck.
Clark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Clark tries to pull guard but Jacobs won't allow it.
Clark tries to score a body lock takedown but Jacobs shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jacobs is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Clark gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Clark really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jacobs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jacobs lands a high kick!
Jacobs tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Clark was well out of range. Poor timing from Jacobs.
Clark lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Clark scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Clark creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Jacobs is trying to stick to Clark's back but Clark is turning into Jacobs. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Jacobs's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Clark.

Jacobs controls Clark momentarily but Clark frees himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jacobs has control of Clark's left arm, preventing Clark from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Clark scores with a one two! Jacobs had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Clark shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jacobs defends it nicely.

Jacobs has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Clark regains guard immediately.

Clark drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Jacobs defends it well.

Jacobs rushes Clark and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Clark tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jacobs just stands there and leans against the cage.

Jacobs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jacobs misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jacobs avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jacobs is looking to clinch.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Jacobs. Clark shrugs it off though.
Clark defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jacobs.
Clark tries to counter with a clinch but Jacobs shakes him off and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Barry Jacobs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jacobs lands a head kick. Clark smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Devon Clark has been cut.
Clark lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Devon Clark seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Clark takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jacobs swats away the attempt to clinch by Clark.
Clark is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jacobs sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Clark gets tackled into the cage by Jacobs. Jacobs maintains the clinch.
Jacobs content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Jacobs ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jacobs no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Clark got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jacobs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Clark has managed to get both his arms back between Jacobs's legs - danger averted.

Jacobs has his foot on Clark's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Clark works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jacobs is defended easily by Clark.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jacobs goes for a double leg but Clark avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Clark continues to drive forward.
Clark fails with an attempt to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Jacobs.

Jacobs manages to break the clinch.
Barry Jacobs is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Clark shoots in and bounces Jacobs off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Clark wants to stand and escape but instead Jacobs has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Barry Jacobs showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Clark has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
