PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ichiro Kosugi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammy Spishak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spishak has chosen Sleeping with Sirens as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Sammy Spishak enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ichiro Kosugi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sammy Spishak!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kosugi looks for a takedown but Spishak sprawls well.
Kosugi slips under a jab.
Kosugi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Spishak manages to avoid it.
Spishak has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Kosugi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kosugi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Spishak circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kosugi definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Spishak has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kosugi finds it's way round the side to connect with Spishak's head.


It looks like Sammy Spishak has been cut.

Spishak thuds his right hand into Kosugi's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Kosugi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spishak defends it nicely.
Spishak is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spishak decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Spishak seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kosugi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kosugi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Spishak pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kosugi is working for a kimura but Spishak is defending it quite comfortably.
Kosugi is looking to take a break and control but Spishak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spishak had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kosugi defends it easily.

The fighters circling - Spishak throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Kosugi shoots in looking for a takedown. Spishak tries to sprawl out of it but Kosugi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Spishak manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kosugi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spishak has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kosugi has managed to get both his arms back between Spishak's legs - danger averted.

Spishak working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kosugi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kosugi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Spishak manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kosugi manages to get himself to full guard.

Kosugi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Spishak has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kosugi to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Spishak is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kosugi pulls down on the head and he's put Spishak to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ichiro Kosugi!
Ichiro Kosugi tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
