PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toni Saavedra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Saavedra might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cant be touched. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Toni Saavedra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kurt Angle!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Angle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Angle lands in his opponent's guard.
Angle is looking to work some ground and pound but Saavedra has wrist control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Angle can do anything to dispel that myth.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Angle is on top in guard.

Saavedra uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Saavedra comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Angle blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Saavedra drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Angle has Saavedra pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Angle pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Saavedra tumbling to the mat - Angle dives into Saavedra's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Angle fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Saavedra throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Saavedra tries to clinch but Angle is having none of it.
Saavedra throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Angle.

Angle is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Angle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Saavedra won't be happy with that.

Angle takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Angle stops Saavedra from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angle working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Saavedra wants to control but Angle is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That was a close round but I would say that Toni Saavedra will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Angle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saavedra swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Angle goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Saavedra rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Angle's guard! Nice work there by Saavedra!

Saavedra will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Saavedra slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Angle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saavedra manages to get himself to full guard.

Kurt Angle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Kurt Angle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Angle has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
