Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Meade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jigoro Schwager (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Josh Meade could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jigoro Schwager's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Josh Meade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jigoro Schwager!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meade throws a lazy right hand but Schwager sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sloppy strikes from Meade. Those never looked like landing.
Schwager uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Meade.
Schwager staying out of range there.
Meade misses with a body shot.

Schwager closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Meade did well to prevent Schwager getting side control.
Schwager is controlling the pace.
Meade wants to control but Schwager passes into side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schwager tries to advance to mount but can't.
We've been hearing good reports from Meade's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schwager advances to full mount.
Schwager thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Schwager punching from mount but Meade doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Meade is trying desperately to improve position.
Schwager takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Meade is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Meade is working hard here to advance position.
You get the feeling that Meade really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Schwager scoring with strikes but Meade is staying in there.
Schwager throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Schwager is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Meade can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

We've been informed that Schwager has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Schwager misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Meade can't escape the position.
Schwager has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Let's hope that Schwager has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Meade throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Schwager swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Meade.


It looks like Josh Meade has been cut.
Schwager takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Schwager.
The ground and pound from Schwager seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Meade is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Schwager throws an elbow but Meade slips to the side and avoids it well.
Schwager remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Jigoro Schwager has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Schwager is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Meade missing with a left hand there. Schwager was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Meade looks to throw the jab but Schwager is out of range.
Schwager looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Josh Meade seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Schwager has managed to clinch.

Schwager is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Meade can't fight it off and eventually Schwager manages to take the fight to the floor. Meade looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Meade had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Schwager defends it easily.

Schwager is continuing to stall.
Meade controls Schwager momentarily but Schwager frees himself.
Schwager would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Meade can't keep his opponent in guard - Schwager advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Still in half guard, Schwager seems content to control.

Jigoro Schwager showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Schwager clinches up against the cage.
Schwager makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Meade managing to block the knees to the body from Schwager.
Meade avoiding damage as Schwager throws knees to the body.
Meade is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Meade tries to break the clinch but Schwager is controlling the position.
Meade has had enough of the clinch but Schwager keeps him there for the moment.

Schwager jumps into guard, dragging Meade to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schwager has his hands on Meade's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Meade is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Schwager defends it well.
Schwager is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Meade's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Meade's back!
Schwager keeps control of the position easily here as Meade tries to buck him off.
Meade is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Schwager has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Meade is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Schwager lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Schwager.
Meade is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Schwager.
