Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Axel Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Desmond Zertiis!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Darius Henderson and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson shoots in for a double leg but Zertiis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johnson gets tackled into the cage by Zertiis. Zertiis maintains the clinch.
Zertiis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Zertiis manages to end up in side control.
Zertiis lands a decent elbow from side control.
Johnson looks to move to half guard but instead Zertiis has passed into mount! Damn!
Zertiis fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Johnson tries to hold on but Zertiis pushes him away.
Zertiis is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Johnson working to try and regain half guard.
Zertiis lands with some strikes.
Johnson has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zertiis breaks from Johnson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Zertiis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Zertiis looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Zertiis raining down hammerfists from mount.
Zertiis working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Johnson turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Zertiis off and cradles Johnson's limp body as Zertiis celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Desmond Zertiis!
