Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joonas Mustonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Heart of a Champion as his entrance music. Royce Gracie struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joonas Mustonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
20 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Royce Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Royce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie missing with a left hand there. Mustonen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gracie takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mustonen throws a big shot that misses.
And Gracie tries to counter it with a takedown but Mustonen pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Jab from Gracie.
Gracie walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Mustonen checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Mustonen slips under a jab from Gracie.
Mustonen connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mustonen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gracie.
Mustonen jabs Gracie right on the nose. Gracie blinks but takes it well.
Gracie shoots in but Mustonen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gracie is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Gracie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mustonen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie throws a hook but Mustonen blocks it.
Mustonen cracks Gracie with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jab by Gracie.
Gracie bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mustonen's head backwards.
A punch combination from Gracie misses.
Gracie just misses with a punch to the body.
Mustonen keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Mustonen swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Mustonen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mustonen on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Mustonen pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Gracie back to the cage. Mustonen follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mustonen drops Gracie with a beautiful combination! Gracie stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mustonen is looking for the KO!
Gracie is rocked!
Gracie lands a jab to the head.
Gracie is still on wobbly legs! Can Mustonen finish him?
Joonas Mustonen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Mustonen counters with a nice body shot.
The fighters circling - Gracie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gracie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mustonen throws a monster overhand right that drops Gracie! Mustonen follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joonas Mustonen!
Joonas Mustonen got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
