PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akira Azuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ultimate Damage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damage has chosen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ysdbj-WzvI as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Akira Azuma has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Akira Azuma seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Akira Azuma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Ultimate Damage!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azuma cracks Damage with a good jab.
Azuma tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Damage walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Azuma has managed to clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Azuma has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Azuma lands a body punch in the clinch.

Damage tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Azuma smiles and moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Damage is defended easily by Azuma.
Azuma half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Azuma fails to land with a series of punches.
Azuma misses with a wild combination.
As Azuma backs off Damage throws a huge counter combo but Azuma manages to avoid it all.

Azuma scores with a decent looking hook.
Damage shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Azuma as he avoids it easily.
Akira Azuma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ultimate Damage.
Damage walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Damage lets loose with a powerful body kick. Azuma will feel that in the morning.
Damage ducks right into an uppercut from Azuma.

Azuma half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Azuma steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Damage. That one must have hurt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Damage is defended easily by Azuma.
Azuma scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Ultimate Damage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Azuma lands the left hand.

Azuma gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Damage to score an easy takedown into full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Azuma manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Damage manages to get himself to full guard.

Azuma with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Azuma cracks Damage with a solid left hand.

Damage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Azuma gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Damage seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Azuma throws a big elbow that misses.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Damage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Damage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Azuma gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Azuma pushes down on Damage's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Azuma looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Azuma is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Damage wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Azuma dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Azuma fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Azuma is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Damage can do to turn this around?

Azuma clinches.

Damage gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Damage seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Azuma does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Azuma slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ultimate Damage has got the better of the ground game so far.
Damage slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Azuma is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Damage avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Azuma.
Azuma is pressing down on Damage's thigh, looking to free his foot. Damage is holding on for now.
Damage wants to control but Azuma is keeping busy.
Azuma uses his free foot to push down on Damage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Damage.

Azuma looking to secure an arm triangle but Damage defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Azuma is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Damage is surviving well by controlling Azuma's body position as best he can.
Damage is in a horrible position here. Azuma smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Azuma cracks Damage with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Damage tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Azuma tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Azuma lands a big elbow.
Azuma lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Damage hang on?
Damage felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Azuma has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

BOOM! Azuma connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Damage tries to lock up and control but Azuma gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Azuma looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Damage covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
