PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dean Duggan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riley Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duggan comes to the cage accompanied by The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger. The crowd seem to be enjoying Marshall's choice of entrance music: I Shot the Sheriff by Eric Clapton. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dean Duggan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Riley Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Marshall throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Marshall lands a jab to Duggan's midsection.
Marshall catches Duggan with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!


It looks like Dean Duggan has been cut.
Marshall throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Duggan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Duggan seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Marshall clinches.
Marshall lands a nice knee to the body.
Duggan blocks an uppercut.
Duggan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Duggan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Marshall looking to throw knees to the head but Duggan is blocking nicely.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Marshall obliges.
Duggan lands with a light punch inside.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Duggan is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Duggan lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Marshall escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Marshall checks the leg kick.
Duggan throws a jab but it's blocked by Marshall.
Marshall throws a big counter head kick but Duggan avoids it with no problem.
Marshall misses with a double jab.
Duggan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Marshall.
Marshall dodges the punch combination from Duggan.
Duggan blocks a head kick by Marshall.
Duggan throws a leg kick
and Marshall cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Marshall looks to score with a jab to the body but Duggan is just out of range.
Marshall swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Duggan counters with a stiff right hand.
Marshall throws a big shot that misses.
Duggan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marshall moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Duggan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Duggan cracks Marshall with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Duggan.
Marshall counters with a body kick.

Duggan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duggan wants to get up but he can't break Marshall's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Marshall told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Duggan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Marshall can't keep his opponent in guard - Duggan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Marshall is staying active underneath Duggan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Marshall fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Duggan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Marshall.

Marshall closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Duggan's guard.

A close round but Riley Marshall will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


That kick from Duggan tenderised Marshall's leg. Marshall is trying to keep his angry face on.
Marshall throws a sloppy head kick and Duggan moves out of range easily.
Duggan cracks Marshall with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Duggan counters with a low kick, right behind Marshall 's knee.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Duggan counters with an inside leg kick.
Duggan feints and then cracks Marshall's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Marshall down.

Duggan fires out a quick counter leg kick but Marshall just manages to avoid it.
Marshall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Marshall cracks Duggan with a right hand to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Marshall pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Marshall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Duggan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Nice sprawl there from Duggan as Marshall shoots in.
Duggan lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


Marshall is rocked!

Duggan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Marshall. Duggan does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Duggan! Marshall is out on his feet! Duggan rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Marshall is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Marshall is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dean Duggan!
A relieved looking Dean Duggan thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Riley Marshall had this to say: 'You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!'.
