PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yamamoto Takiyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirk Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kirk Hall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 2, fighting out of New York, Yamamoto Takiyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kirk Hall!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Chad Campbell and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hall is looking to break free of the clinch but Takiyama has double underhooks.
Hall tries to break free but Takiyama pushes him back against the cage.

Takiyama decides to pull guard.

Takiyama is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Takiyama is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've been hearing good reports from Takiyama's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Takiyama seems to be working for a kimura but Hall defends the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hall defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Takiyama.
Hall stops Takiyama from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Takiyama can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hall is looking to escape.

Hall tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Takiyama looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Takiyama mounts Hall! Really nice guard pass there!

Takiyama wants to take his opponent's back but instead Hall manages to regain half guard.
Takiyama wants to pass the guard but Hall is defending well.

Takiyama is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hall doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Takiyama.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Takiyama's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Takiyama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hall's guard.

Takiyama stands and throws Hall's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Takiyama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hall is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Takiyama is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hall has escaped the position, nice work there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Takiyama tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hall's legs.

Takiyama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takiyama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Takiyama has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Takiyama wants to take Hall's back but he can't do it this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Takiyama is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hall to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hall shrugs it off.
Takiyama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hall can do to turn this around?

Takiyama goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hall turns into him and now he's in Takiyama's guard.
Takiyama controls Hall momentarily but Hall frees himself.
Hall won't allow Takiyama to sweep him here.
Hall missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Takiyama looking for a sweep. Not yet Takiyama, not yet.

Takiyama is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hall throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Takiyama's body to avoid the submission. Takiyama has instead reached around Hall's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Takiyama arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Yamamoto Takiyama!
During a confident post fight interview, Yamamoto Takiyama thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
