PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cameron Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Agua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roy Agua will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cameron Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roy Agua!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Agua throws a lazy head kick

and Hicks counters with a nice double leg into side control. Agua won't be happy with that.
Agua is not content to let Hicks control the position.
Hicks lands a few punches from side control.
Agua managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Hicks.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hicks throws a strike aimed at the side of Agua's head but Agua avoids it well.

Hicks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Agua is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hicks working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Agua is letting Hicks control him for a moment.
Agua really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hicks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hicks goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Agua has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hicks but great work by Agua.
Hicks is looking for a sweep.
Hicks regains half guard.
Agua wants to stand up but Hicks manages to regain full guard.
Agua wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving.

Hicks is pulling down on Agua's head to control his posture.
Agua missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hicks looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Hicks controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hicks definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Hicks trying to control the position from guard on top but Agua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hicks throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A slapping body kick lands there for Agua.
Hicks has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Agua.

Agua instigates a clinch.
Hicks takes an elbow to the temple.

Hicks pulls guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hicks is pulling down on Agua's head to control his posture.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hicks keeping moving, preventing Agua from controlling successfully.
Agua wants to pass the guard but Hicks is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cameron Hicks dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Agua closes the distance and pushes Hicks back into the cage.
Agua is stalling here.
Agua is trying to maintain a safe position but Hicks gets an underhook and turns Agua into the cage.
Agua tries to stall but Hicks uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Agua lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Agua gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Agua trying to control the position but instead, Hicks has worked for underhooks and has pushed Agua into the cage.
Agua seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Roy Agua.
Agua tries a head kick but it misses.
Agua is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Agua is looking to clinch.
Hicks keeps the fight on the outside.
Hicks appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Agua misses with a body kick.
As Agua tries to get set, Hicks tries to push him back and clinch up but Agua manages to avoid the attempt.
A telegraphed right hand from Agua misses the target.
An attempted straight right counter from Hicks misses the target.
Hicks moves out of range of the strikes.
Hicks appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A cross from Agua lands.
Hicks is trying hard to land a takedown here. Agua sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Agua throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Agua is breathing heavily.

and Hicks counters with a shoot takedown. Agua fights it but they end up in guard.
Hicks engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Hicks with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hicks throwing strikes from guard but Agua blocks nicely.
Cameron Hicks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hicks is working Agua over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Agua trying to keep a closed guard but Hicks is proving a slippery customer.
Hicks wants to control from the top but Agua keeps moving.
Hicks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hicks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hicks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Agua gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hicks to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hicks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A close second round but Roy Agua will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Jab, jab by Agua - just one landing.
Agua throws a nice inside leg kick.
Agua tries to clinch there but Hicks circles away.
Hicks is looking to counter the offense by Agua and move into the clinch.
Agua clobbers Hicks with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Agua has taken the fight to the clinch.

Hicks manages to pull guard.
Hicks seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Agua stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hicks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Agua throws a strike but Hicks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hicks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Agua utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hicks controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Agua keeping moving, preventing Hicks from controlling successfully.
Hicks is really struggling to control Agua but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hicks wants to pass the guard but Agua is keeping the position.
Hicks looking to sit in guard and control but Agua gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hicks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Hicks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Agua has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hicks seems to be looking for submissions.

Hicks is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hicks prevents Agua from standing back up.

Hicks is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Agua is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hicks is looking for a kimura but Agua is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hicks to get the leverage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Agua wants to control but Hicks is keeping busy.
Nice strikes from Hicks there.
Hicks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Agua's head.
Agua is not content to let Hicks control the position.

Hicks is looking for a kimura here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hicks working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cameron Hicks showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hicks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
