Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stevie Why!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rudy Perry!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Why lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Rudy Perry has been cut.

Why closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Perry to the mat! Perry manages to get full guard.
Why looking to pass the guard.
Why stopping the sweep attempt from Perry.

Why is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Perry is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Perry has escaped and now he's on top!
Why controls Perry momentarily but Perry frees himself.
Perry works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Perry slows the pace down in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perry is looking to take a break and control but Why is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Perry landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perry drops an elbow to the side of Why's head.
Why regains full guard. Nicely done.
Why throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Why is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Why has his foot on Perry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Perry works his way back into a safe position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perry wants to control from the top but Why keeps moving.
Why utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Perry looking to pass the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Why paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Why throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Perry's waist but Perry gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Why off to one side.
Why takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Why is breathing heavily.

Perry changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Why looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Why tries to improve position but can't.
Perry tries to advance to mount but Why denies him.
Perry remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Why is trying to control Perry's posture but Perry avoids it.
Perry works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Perry works to advance to full mount. Why defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Perry! Why is hurt baaadly! Perry is firing away with more strikes - Why is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Rudy Perry!
