PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Everette Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jayhan Madera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jayhan Madera will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Everette Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jayhan Madera!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Madera.
Hewitt tries for a takedown but Madera sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Madera wants to counter the offense by Hewitt and move into the clinch position.

Madera closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hewitt to the mat! Hewitt manages to get full guard.
Hewitt wants to control the position but Madera says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Madera trying to control from half guard but Hewitt is working away.
Madera is controlling the pace.
Madera prevents Hewitt from improving his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Madera seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hewitt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Madera wants to take a breather but Hewitt is having none of it.
Madera is stalling here. Hewitt is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Madera seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hewitt has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Hewitt is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Madera has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hewitt wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Madera, who protects the arm well.

Hewitt landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Hewitt working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Madera holds on to Hewitt's head and controls the position momentarily.

Hewitt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hewitt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Madera tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Madera takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hewitt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hewitt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hewitt is trying to get an arm triangle but Madera is defending well.
Sloppy strikes there by Hewitt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hewitt goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Madera has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hewitt but great work by Madera.
Hewitt is letting Madera control him for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jayhan Madera will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Madera closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Madera.
Hewitt has Madera pressed against the cage.
Madera lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Madera avoiding damage as Hewitt throws knees to the body.
Madera looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Hewitt tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Madera goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Hewitt tries to land a knee to the head but Madera blocks with his arms.

Madera's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Madera throws a head kick that misses.
A right-left combo lands from Madera.
Hewitt misses with a takedown attempt
and Madera counters with a two punch combo.

Hewitt tries to keep at a distance but Madera has taken the fight into the clinch.

Madera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Hewitt with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Everette Hewitt. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Madera rushes Hewitt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hewitt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Madera has Hewitt pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Madera pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hewitt tumbling to the mat - Madera dives into Hewitt's guard.

Hewitt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Madera is one step ahead there.
Hewitt keeping full guard, as Madera tries to pass.
Hewitt has a closed guard, preventing Madera from standing up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Madera trying to control but Hewitt is working from the bottom.
Madera wants to pass the guard but Hewitt is keeping the position.
Hewitt wants to sweep but no luck.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Madera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hewitt was covering up waiting for the punch and Madera finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hewitt keeping moving, preventing Madera from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jayhan Madera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Madera closes the distance and pushes Hewitt back into the cage.

Madera jumps guard and drags Hewitt to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Madera wants to get back to his feet but Hewitt is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hewitt cracks Madera with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hewitt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hewitt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Madera, up you get!
Jayhan Madera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Madera rushes Hewitt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Madera manages to break the clinch.

Hewitt gets caught napping as Madera dives in and scores a takedown. Hewitt manages to retain guard.
Madera is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Madera throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hewitt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hewitt lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Madera is trying to keep Hewitt in close.

Madera avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Madera is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Madera wants to control but Hewitt passes easily into half guard.

Hewitt is working for a kimura but Madera is defending it quite comfortably.
Hewitt wants to stand but Madera has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hewitt is looking for a kimura but Madera is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hewitt to get the leverage.
Madera is looking to escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Madera fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
No luck for Hewitt with that takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Madera feints and as Hewitt raises his hands in defense, Madera changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jayhan Madera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Madera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
